Sri Lanka cricket coach Tom Moody is likely to be the favourite to replace John Buchanan when the successful Australian coach retires from his post after the 2007 Word Cup.
Australia`s daily newspaper `The Herald Sun` reported yesterday (Thursday) that if Sri Lanka are to make an upset in the VB Series finals (starting today), such a feat will become the strongest credential for Moody to claim for the hot seat as the Australian cricket coach. The contracts of both Buchanan and Moody expire after the next year`s world Cup in the Caribbean.
`Tom Moody will be favourite to succeed John Buchanan as Australian cricket coach should Sri Lanka upset the host nation in the VB Series finals this week,` wrote Richard Earle and Robert Craddock in `The Herald Sun` in a news report under the title `Sri Lanka coach can push claims to succeed Buchanan ' Moody on notice.`
But Moody has been quoted saying: `I haven`t thought too much beyond my current role with Sri Lanka, which is one I am really enjoying.`
The article added: `Cricket Australia officials kept a discreet eye on Moody for several years (he also coached English county Worcestershire), feeling he is an intelligent, committed character who could eventually become part of the Australian team`s brains trust.`
But Moody had said: `Who knows what the future holds beyond the World Cup.`
