Dear forum members,
Let me use this thread as a `welcome to 2007` and to give a summary of what went on this year in the forum and what`s in the pipe for next year.
Let me apologize for the update delays these days. I was in Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks (out of Colombo) and it was hard to keep the normal phase.
In 2006, traffic wise lanka newspapers gets a little over 1 million unique visitors every week. Out of them, only 5% to 7% are registered members. Others are regular visitors but they come to watch what the 5% to 7% has to say about news articles here. A major new feature named `senior member spaces` was added to the forum in November. This lets the senior members to run their sub forum / blog. In my opinion it`s doing great and it helps dilute political wars that often go on in the main threads. From last week I stopped giving new memberships over the counter. Membership activation links are given after a quick review now. This helps spammers from abusing the forum. A faq is is now published at http://www.lankanewspapers.com/news/faq.jsp
In 2007 1st quarter I plan to implement the following:
- Video publishing feature for member spaces
- Search feature by thread, by week and by `all time`.
- Further improve search engine ranking for the forum. It`s already the largest forum on sri lanka news, but wont let it rest.
Please suggest new ideas. I thank all the members for keep this forum sooooo alive. (forest, thank you for giving me the idea to do welcome to 2007 thread)

Well happy new year to all, may saner minds prevail in Sri Lanka in 2007 (unlikely as it may seem).
Mr. Brown, thanks for a great forum and especially for taking an interest in it everyday and helping us the users.
The ideas you mention for the new year are great, and I highly look forward to the video posting ability and the search is a much welcome tool as well!.

Happy new year to all although its a little too early...specialforces is away in the field and hence has not been able to keep track on whats going on here for some time...
anyway sf will be back with his usual updates in janauary and best wishes to all including mr brown...
