LTTE - Karuna clash in the east
Karuna faction says civilians were affected by LTTE's attacks using the camp
At least 12 members of the Tamil Tigers have been killed in an attack in the east, breakaway faction of the LTTE said.
Karuna faction?s spokesman Asad Moulana said three of their cadres sustained injuries in the attack in Pankudah, Iluppadichenai.
Members of the Karuna faction launched an attack on the LTTE camp in Batticaloa district on Saturday night, he told BBC Tamil Service.
The attackers have captured arms and ammunition including a 120mm mortar, he added.
?Our troops have destroyed the entire camp and captured the arms and ammunitions,? Moulana said.
He accused the LTTE of using the camp to launch attacks on Sri Lanka government-held territory.
There was no immediate response from the Tamil Tigers. Edited By - mavilaru - 27 Dec 2006 13:16:08 GMT |

Ameen Izzadeen writes on 26/12/2006 on the 2nd anniversary of the natural disaster, Tsunami.
UN report last week said the absence of a tsunami aid sharing mechanism, which the donor countries tried to work out between the government and the LTTE, had hampered rebuilding efforts. Such a mechanism was in fact signed by the Kumaratunga government and the LTTE but Sinhala nationalists have successfully obtained a Supreme Court ruling to the effect that the agreement was ultra vires to the country's constitution.
Most of the people this Joint Mechanism intended to help were the minorities in the N-E Province. Why could not a Judge from either Muslim or Tamil community be included in the panel of FIVE who declared that it was against the constitution? Sri Lanka must follow other countries in making the minorities feel they too are a part of the country.
In other neighbouring countries people from minority communities have been holding high offices but in Sri Lanka only Sinhalese Buddhists are allowed to occupy the highest offices in the country. No wonder SL is slacking backwards whereas other small countries like Singapore is advancing fast with all the communities on board. Edited By - saleemtariq - 27 Dec 2006 13:36:42 GM |

Don't you remember Bill Clinton, CBK and Editor of tyhe Sunday Times praised TRO for their services in helping Tsunami victims?
Now the GoSL has froozen the TRO funds how can they help anyone?
Are you saying this Govt. is only for the Sinhalese and that's why Tamils and Muslims are not helped at all? |
