The underlined fact here is that the pro-ltte idiologists have infested every nook and corner and thus even capable of leading a personality like Kofi in to making strong-worded critisism against a legitimate government in the face of obvious LTTE terrorism. If the Tsunami money has been misappropriated, the warning should have come directly targeting that financial irregularities, not targeting the armed struggle against the ruthless LTTE. Noone, let alone Kofi Annan, should be allowed to critisize a legitimate government as a 'eqaul Party' with a terrorist outfit, as if the government is equally responsible for the war. It should have been separate warnings in all impartiality to the GOSL and the Terrorists. The terrorists should have been targetted for their warring acts. Not the GOSL. But what happens at the bottomline is, some UN high official makes a statement asking 'all parties' to respect human rights. on the surface, it seems like a nice warning. but reading between the lines, it says, GOSL and the LTTE is equal in his eye. What a shame, Mr Annan! Edited By - ahmadineja - 27 Dec 2006 07:38:43 GMT |

Look many Sinhala people do not believe the truth... in the eye's of the world LTTE is legitimate government... they control land and sea; they have army, navy, police etc... and a functioning corruption free administration...
UN and many donors did a big mistake by funneling money through GOSL! |

Ahmadineja,
If a robber enters your house at night and if you think he would attack you do you avoid attacking him because it is ILLEGAL to assault people in Sri Lanka?
The laws of any country is decided either by a government (either elected democratically or not) or sometimes even by any powerful political group. The laws are neither static or do not fit into every time and every case. They are not gospel. Any law can be changed depending upon the requirement.
For example, there was a time in Sri Lanka (during the Kandyan kingdom) growing a beard was illegal. Few years ago not taking a license for a TV set was illegal. Now nobody takes license for TVs. These laws were modified according to the situation.
It is also illegal in Sri Lanka to drive on the right side of the road. However, if you can prove you do it to avoid an accident this law and any other traffic law can be violated.
These examples are just to prove that there are moments we can mend or even break the laws if that is for common good.
The ethnic issue was the result of the present system we have. So there is no point trying to solve the ethnic issue within the same framework. Only fools will try to solve it within the same framework within it was originated. What we need is an 'out of box thinking'.
That is the opportunity we have missed during the tsunami.
Yes, of course LTTE would have surely benefited from the joint mechanism, but that is unavoidable. The question is not whether LTTE benefits or not, but whether people need it or not.
No responsible government can let its own people suffer like this bringing useless arguments like that.

Rswkv,
In another thread you say:
May Year 2007 be truly a peaceful year for all peace lovers who are not promoting terrorism.
So given your thoughts in this thread, I do not think these thougts were genunie at all.
You only want to wish a best year for war mongers...
Dont worry, given the present trends there are enough indications that 2007 will be the 'Year of WAR'
