JVP refutes JHU charge
Saturday, 23 December 2006 - 9:12 AM SL Time

The JVP denied allegations made by the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) over its role in the plantation workers` strike. The JHU had charged that the JVP and certain Marxist groups created panic among the plantation workers and this had paved the way for LTTE cadres from the Eastern province to infiltrate the central hills.

JHU General Secretary Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobitha thera said in a statement that the JVP and certain Marxist groups were trying to create a chaotic situation in the plantation sector by insisting on a daily wage of 300 rupees for the workers. This was a part of a conspiracy to undermine the operations of the security forces in Vakarai and Serunuwara. The JVP and other groups were bent on destabilizing the hill country in a bid to provide a safe haven there for terrorist cadres fleeing the armed conflict areas in the East, he had said.

President of the All Ceylon Estate Workers Union, JVP MP Ramalingam Chandrasekar said that the Ven. Sobitha thera`s allegations did not reflect the policy of the JVP. `If the plantation people are to be prevented from sympathizing with terrorism and the LTTE, we have to get involve to redress their problems and grievances. That could be done only by the JVP. The racist political parties such the JHU are always suspecting, without factual evidence, that LTTE cadres and supporters are among the estate workers. These parties are pushing the estate workers to join the LTTE,` Chandrasekar said.

`Whether there is a strike or not, the LTTE can carry out their activities in the Central hills. We can prevent it by doing politics in the Central hills. The JVP had represented the plantation workers always. We are fighting for their rights. It is the JVP`s responsibility,` he said.

I am glad there there is complete freedom to constructively criticize one another,in the process of doing the best for the country. This is a good sign that we are a free nation,to some extent.

Justman,

True! These politicians have the freedom to constructively criticize, but that freedom is used often in SL to destroy, plunder and take the country to ruin rather than to construct.

That is what has happened in the past since about the late 50's, that is what is happening now, and that is what will continue to happen till sanity dawns on our people and they cast aside political, ethnic, religious, and class differences and work towards building a true 'Sri Lanka'

Today there is nothing 'Sri' about Lanka as wherever you look there is nothing but chaos and mayhem due to these power hungry politicians who thrive on the divisions in society.

Unless there is truth to it JHU will not say it
In any case JVP is a killer organization and must not be trusted in any way. They say one thing but do something else
to gain political awareness. That is JVP all over it is

Though I do not agree with them on many issues, still I have some soft corner for JHU. It is a different question most of us cannot agree with them, but they know where they want to go and compared to many other parties do that in a relatively honest manner.

If TNA can speak only about Tamils, SLMC can speak only about Muslims, there is nothing at all JHU speaking only about Sinhalese Buddhists. However, had they done that without getting the religion to the political stage and eventually insulting the religion and the robes, they would have received much respect from the society.

JVP, on the other hand are now so desperate to jump on anything, because they have found their voter bases are dwindling and SLFP (not UNP) had eaten into their vote banks. Support given to plantation workers was only one of their cheap ways to gain a bit more support.

Freedom of expression is maintained in this forum. But, the killer JVPs will kill anyone who criticise them whether constructively or otherwise.

A war of words between JVP and JHU is nothing that should make news because both parties are trying to wooe supporters. Both parties are bankrupt both ideologically and support base. Let the two dogy parties to fight it out. Given chance, they will eat each other and blame it on LTTe or GOsl.

LTTE+VP=JHU+JVP

There is no bigger curse to this country than those LTTe and JVP killers, and the JHU that adds fuel to the conflict.

Save our motherland from JVP and JHU.
