Let me add this too. (I have never told this to anyone except Kula but think it is time to tell you too off mainstream.)
I had a very close relationship with a (then) famous Tamil politician in early 1990s, as his daughter was my batchmate. (He was a good friend of Kula too.)
Well, for sometime he lived in the same Colombo house Amirthalingam was killed. I have visited there and I have seen the blood stains.
At one occasion one of my friends casually asked him (in the middle of another conversation) 'Uncle, Do you support LTTE?'
Pat came his answer and it was a gem. (BTW, he was a lawyer.)
He said, 'Putha, you have seen those blood stains. After those blood stains do you think I am so stupid to support LTTE? I know most of the LTTE leaders personally. They have been here (his place NOT in CMB) many times and sat in the same chairs you were sitting right now, but that's that. I am not a racist. I have nothing against Sinhalese. When I contested my seat (in Eastern province) only one third of the voters were Tamils. But I won. It was Sinhalese who voted for me. Why should I have anything against people who have voted for me?'
This great man was silenced by LTTE somewhere near 2000. I could not even attend his funeral in Trinco.
So TC, to put it bluntly, I too have seen the blood stains...(many times)

I know you feel emotional to see my above post as Mr.T was a dear friend of yours.
It was great people like him who were responsible in changing my thinking. I am happy about that.
Otherwise I too would have been ended up exactly like another Muchalinda. |

I think i know who you are talking about. If he's the same person Dr.T was a very good friend of my dad. People like him and Raviraj had to be sacrificed to satisfy the megalomania of a single man. This is one of the few times i yearn that those carpet bombs find the right bunker in Kilinochchi. |

Thanks for your frank reply. irrespective of whether you consider me a friend or not
i still consider you a good man. i guess truth hurts sometimes and yes this one hurts.
anyway here is something i had written long time ago and i will try and capture it in one post.
I have so many times requested you to think about this but if you do not listen to me I cannot help.
i am probably in the minority here. having been in LNP for the last yr or so i can only see the situation going one way and THATS south. I dont think a bridge can be built with the present situation.
the govt has to come for meaningful talks and thats will only come if they experience pain. Only way pain will come is when the economy takes a nose dive.
Now unfortunately this is a collective punishment but i gess when the tamils are subjected to collective punishment there is no way out.
Lets say i meet a very moderate sinhala person in COLOMBO. do you honestly believe when i talk with him i'll tell him that i support the LTTE. I must be ONe damn DUMB dude to do that. if i lived in colombo (and i am a capitalist too!) and if i can distance myself from the North (i do have relatives there right now) by supporting the LTTE i will be SHOOTING myself in the foot!
youre basically alienating the vast majority of the tamils. I take it from your assessment the vast majority are bloody racist. well i cant change it
the issue i had with you earlier was that you have very good views but dont know how to implement it. you refuse to recognise the LTTE. without this BASIC fact your words dont hold water. sure i can sweet talk (yeah i do that sometimes here) but that doesnt solve the problem.
MR & RW are basically the same crooks. One is a smooth operator while the other isnt but at the end of the day both are Same same. nothing more nothing less.

I think you might be referring to Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam. If its not please let me know. there is a handle here (smile4u) who worked closely with Neelan. Pls read waht he had to say. BTW he isnt a TAMIL

you have to look at both sides of the coin. who bumped off RAVIRAJ!

If you see beyond the simple equation with only parameters LTTE and GOSL is that is your problem. Not mine. (This is a common disability of the majority of the Sri Lankan population, both Tamils and Sinhalese.)
When I said building bridges I never meant building bridges between LTTE and GOSL. LTTE does not represent all Tamil people. Neither GOSL represent all Sinhalese people. I do not give a darn to both.
When I said building bridges I said building bridges between Sinhalese and Tamils. As long as we build bridges between the two communities, whatever the solutions offered will not bring permanent peace. So I am thinking of very long term goals and not just focus on the current situation.
I will not be surprised if you cannot understand this. Not many Tamils here dont understand what I say (Kula and Lula are two rare exceptions. Ajan and Thirumalai sometimes understand what I say, but not always)
However, I am surprised that you do not know that it was LTTE who bumped Raviraj. LTTE did this because (unlike you) they understood very clearly Raviraj was building a bridge between two communities who was a threat to their own existence. LTTE had unsympathetically bumped off every Tamil leader whom it thought was building a bridge with South.
Finally, I said Mr. T and NOT Dr. T. I will also be surprised somebody like Dr. Neelan T staying at Kula's place. Mr. T had stayed with Kula whenever he had visited Jaffna, according to what I hear.
I am only sad that I cannot sit for a drink with somebody in the same age group, in the same environment and studied in a school for what I have a very high regard. Sorry.

SLFP/UNP known as the GOSL have KILLED more lankans (Sinhalese and Tamils) than all the other groups Put together.
I guess if you preach NON violence and dont openly utter racist statements everything is hunky Dory eh.

Its nothing Personal. one cant talk about the ethnic issue without steppeing on each others TOES. you might not care for the GOSL but i do care for the LTTE since they are the ONLY force
that are stopping the GOSL in unleashing ETHNIC cleansing which the GOSL carried out in sinister fashion starting from the 50's
remember these words. if the tamils go down the THE whole ISLAND will go down. |
