President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed the Treasury to pay Rs. 5 million as compensation to the family of the late TNA MP Nadarajah Raviraj who was assassinated by an unknown gunman last month. Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said the Cabinet had approved a proposal to make an ex-gratia payment to Mrs. Sashikala Raviraj, and two children Praveena and Yuthishtran.

| This decent Tamil leader and his Tamil leader deserves our our sympathies and good wishes and even a state award and his brave bodyguard too deserves the same honors. |

| Its absurd. the best justice you can do to his family is to FIRST find out the person who did this AND then think about compensation. |

| This is ridiculas. Yes compensation must be paid, but no special treatment. Law of the country should be followed. Its totally unfair to the thousand of innocents who lost their life without any connection to the conflict. Its like an admission that the govt had a hand in the murder. |

People-at-large, and the Govt needs the support of those Tamil-folk who are not die-hard LTTE supporters.
This is a good thing - shows the Govt has concern for Tamil leaders - who are democrats - even though they may not fully see eye-to-eye with the Govt. (Raviraj's family members may indeed be thinking of leaving the country, but they are un-likely to blame the Govt, after leaving Sri Lanka. Believe, they know who actually killed Mr Raviraj .. LTTE hire-lings. They are afraid, at the next stage, they too may be 'gunned-down'). Edited By - SenaM - 16 Dec 2006 02:26:50 GMT |

Motta Raala hopes the whole issue of the GOSL murder of the MP will go away if he throws money at the wife and kids.
Somewhere out there, Raviraj is laughing (in sinhala) :-) Edited By - mungatta - 15 Dec 2006 21:26:17 GMT |
