`Bharati, if alive, would have rooted for Tamils`
Thursday, 14 December 2006 - 6:00 AM SL Time

`If national poet Subramanya Bharathi were alive today, he would have raised his voice in support of Sri Lankan Tamils`, general secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) Vaiko has said.

Stating this at a function to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Bharathi here yesterday, Vaiko showered praise on the poet and recalled his love for Tamil, patriotic songs, fearless writing in support of freedom movement and support to women`s liberation.

Releasing a Tamil book Karisal Kattin Kavithaisolai Bharathi, the MDMK supremo said, `Bharathi never failed to raise his concern for Tamils living in other parts of the world, while writing in support of freedom movement`.

He noted that the poet called for an armed struggle, too. In fact, he supported the Russian Revolution and wrote in support of it in an Indian magazine. The poet wanted nationalists to follow the footsteps of the revolutionaries by setting up secret association to carry out armed rebellion to ouster the Britishers.

MDMK headquarters secretary K S Radhakrishnan , who edited the released book, said Bharathi always leaned towards radicals led by Tilak in Congress and wrote articles and editorials in support of militant struggles against the colonial rulers.

Veteran Parliamentarian Era Sezhian said revolutionary poet Bharathidasan, who admired Bharathi and considered him as his mentor, has said many a times that no one had spoken against casteism and religious practices like Bharathiar did.

Descendants of Bharathi including his grand daughter Vijaya Bharathi were honoured at the function. Film actor Sivakumar received first copy of the book. Former bureaucrat B S Raghavan and Tamil scholar Bharathi Baskar also spoke.

Why can't Tamil Nadu keep their filthy paws off Sri Lanka? Face it, Indians, you may have tried to conquer us for more than 2000 years, but are we still a part of India?

Go figure!

But for every stupidities of Vaiko, there is eqivalent and opposite stupidities! :)

Imperator,
'India' has conquered 'sri lanka'many times over. From Budhism to the latest bollywood hits that you get to listen all over Sri Lanka are not telling another story.

For all the practical reasons, 'sri lanka' is part of 'India'!. They cannot be separated. If you know, what I mean!

If national poet Subramanya Bharathi were alive today, he would have raised his voice?.
If M.K Gandhi were alive today, he would have raised his voice??.
If Jawaharlal Nehru were alive today, he would have raised his voice?

This way of of talking is meaning less..!..........For the political leader.
Because, they have done the things based on their own point of view (And the situation of their surrounding imposed on that)

Now we have to speak about the present ?. (Not about the past)
What the nations can do?
What the People can do?

If
national poet Subramanya Bharathi were alive today

If - its a small word
with a bigger meaning..........The question is... is he alive.....?

If he is alive then
he would have
been still writing poetry not to mention with all due respect for the guy

He has started talking through his filthy ___(Three letter word) again. I think its an election gimmick for the majority illiterates in TN.
Unless the State Govt. does something to improve the litteracy of those population, politicians such as him self gonna go on rulling for decades.

Over to you Mr. President (Whom i admire you alot for being a Muslim , for his childhood to his present esteemed position he hold and for the services he has rendered to the Great Country of India, You are a living example to all of us to say 'you can achieve anything in this life if you try')
though i am a Sri Lankan Lion.

Its all about Ifs & Buts of YKO the trash & the toilet pit of TN.

The lunatic fringe is always led by political ambitions of the loudest yapping mongrel. Look back twenty years, and Muthuvel Karunanidhi was that mongrel. Today he rides the herd, and someone else is the yapping mongrel. T'nadu is easy turf for polemics of this nature. By the way, what happened to the tamil actor dude who was beating the ltte drum sometime ago?

Here's an article about the LTTE and Pak intel agencies in cahoots to subvert the Indian economy:

Did you by any chance notice how much the Sri lankan tamils hate tamils of indian origin, but cry uncle to india each time they get thrashed in wars they themselves start?

The sinhalese are of equal indian descent, and at least we hold to one response as amn independent nation. There are no hidden hatreds or ulterior agendas against India among the sinhalese.

we simply don't like India meddling in our affairs. Yet neither have we ever supported any anti-indian campaigns by anyone.

Check this out about ltte's connections with the pakistatni intel in subverting south india:

Sandman,

If you happen to notice, there is no exclusive community called Indian based on ethnic, religion, race or language.

A Miso from Misoram is very different from a Malayalee from Kerala in terms of language, religion, race, culture. So is people from different states of India.

Being an Indian is all about being secular, plural and respect each others equal rights and dignity.

India will not deal with Sri Lankan national issue as Singalese Vs Tamil. It is an issue in which secularism and pluralism Vs exclusive ethnicism and racism. It is in vital interest of India that the former succeeds in this struggle.

India is not meddling in SL's affairs. She is just defending herself.
