JVP threatens to strike with all its might

Despite Government`s call to the trade union sector to act with restraint in a spirit of sacrifice in view of the national crisis, the several public sector trade unions are to launch an agitation campaign from today.
They say the Government is taking advantage of the present situation to abdicate its responsibility of addressing workers` grievances.
JVP trade union wing leader K.D. Lal Kantha warned that 2007 would be a year full of trade union action as the Mahinda Rajapaksa government has turned a deaf ear to workers` issues.
In response to a call by the National Trade Union Centre, employees of Government departments, corporations and other statutory institutions are due to stage a picket this evening opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station, demanding the Government rectify all salary anomalies created by circular 6/2006.
`From the day the Government issued the circular in January this year we had been engaged in negotiations. We tried to negotiate a settlement when the circular was issued, but to no avail. We are not asking anything new from the Government. We are simply asking to grant us what was already promised. Government is ignorant of workers` rights and for the first time in history this Government has unveiled a Budget which did not grant a single benefit to the working class,` Lal Kantha charged.
He said inflation could rise to 20% next year according to the Budget and the working class compelled to engage in more agitation campaigns.
`Only the workers have to suffer pay and allowance cuts and sacrifice their rights in the name of the national crisis, but not the ministers or the MPs. They got their salary increases. We are not saying that is unfair. It was something they deserve, but if there is enough money to increase their pay there should be enough money for the Government to increase salaries of workers,` he said.

Sure the GOSL has a lot of money. It has allocated 130 Billion for defence surely the other sectors will be given the same attention.
JVP is rigt to demend from the government and I want to see what the GOSL has to say.
The COL is definately going up next year and so will inflation. But I think this Gov. is not interested in all that.
MR & Co. want to make their money from this war and they are going to make sure it happens. A full scale war if possible.
More wepons = more commissions.$$$$$ |

Yes ..when the Salary increases to politicians came up recently, all parties including the JVP joined hands in approving. Now the real question is with all those funds allocated for defense there will be a lot of commissions from arms deals etc..
The real question from JVP is ' how could we get a share from those funds? '
Yes they struck with all its might in 1971s and 1980s .
They burnt buses and electricity transformers. Poor commuters including some JVPers were waiting for the buses on the following day ? The JVP leader Somawansa has a house in London. How did he get the funds? Did he work there ? No all funds have been siphoned from poor Siri Lanka.
All politicians have milked Siri Lanka almost to the death?
And now they talk BS Edited By - Senaka007 - 14 Dec 2006 18:08:24 GMT |

Senaka,
Yes you are right, this is what they did when the Indo-Lanka Accord was shoved on us and when the country was facing a critical situation.
JVP however happily participated in the subsequent Provincial Council elections which they so vehemently opposed by wreaking havoc in the entire South in 1987! |

| Fake socialists bark again! Oh these traitors and hypocrites have no limit to their shame. They are an important crutch for the MR administration which could not have survived without their parliamentary and extra-parliamentary support. They went along with all the anti-worker, anti-minority polices of Mahinda and now they are crowing. As Senaka has pointed out this a corrupt unprincipled party. Watch the money trail. |

TCK,
Somawansa Amarasinghe shuttles between London and Colombo quite often.
SA is a British Citizen heading a political organisation (formerly a terror group) that is sucking the sap out of SL based from the south.
Anton Bala was a British Citizen also a leader of terror group that is sucking the sap out of the country based from the north. Edited By - kiwikanga - 15 Dec 2006 02:28:46 GMT |

It is good for the JVP to realize the truth though late, if that was forgotten all these days hidden behind the Ethnic War screen.
They also should realize now, as Maxine said,
'Terrorism is the War of Poor and War is the Terrorism of Rich'
The poverty and all other problems are common to all, regardless of nationality or Ethinicity. Whether it is in Trouser and Jakect or Kurahan Satrakaya, it is the Alliance of Capitalism that is in force, and JVP was vehement in bringing the new dictator to power.
Now be prepared for the holocaust crusade, the Ruthless Killer with the Iron fist, of 89 era is coming back from Indonesia ! heh, heh, This simply explains why PTA was reimposed. Do you have brains? Offer him Manel Mala when he lands here!
