| | To Those Who Consider Themselves Sri lankan Patriots, Monday, 11 December 2006 - 12:55 AM SL Time | | | To Those Who Consider Themselves Sri lankan Patriots,
I want to take your patriotism at face value and accept that you are driven by a love for Sri Lanka and a desire to see the country united and peaceful.
I have a few simple questions for your kind consideration:
Do you think that you can unite the people in the country by supporting a policy of war in the Northeast of the country that is causing extreme loss of life and damage to property for the poeple of the area?
You say you are against the LTTE and not the Tamil people but is it not true that it is the Tamil people of the Northeast who are suffering disproportionately as a result of pursuing a military strategy?
Do you think the more than half million Tamil IDP`s in the NOrtheast of the country think of the SLDF as their saviours or as their enemies?
Even if you think it is possible to militarily defeat the LTTE, do you think it is possible to defeat the feeling in peoples hearts that they do not belong to Sri Lanka?
In your personal lives do you find that you find the best long term results when you try to force someone to do something against their will or when you take a more cooperative approach and come to a consensual agreement?
These are not questions about whether the LTTE is right or whether it is wrong. These are questions for those who are not LTTE or even hate the LTTE to consider regarding the possiblity of reaching their goals.
Defeating the LTTE is not an end in itself but is for the purpose of maintaining the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. So if you are a patriot and are concerned about maintianing the unity of the country then you must ask yourself that central question. How do we maintian a united Sri Lanka? Killing Prabhakaran or destroying the LTTE, even if this suddenly became possible which more than twenty years of war have proven is not, is not the same thing as keeping the country united.
To keep the country united the people in the country of all communities must feel that they have an equal stake in the country. If in pursuing a military strategy the GOSL manages to alienate the Tamil population completely including those who are non-LTTE (leaving aside government sponsored individuals) is this a way of uniting the country? |

| Great post vimu, this is what some just don't get by trying to separate the issue into two artificial halves, there can be no solution, the LTTE are only the symptom, whether they can be defeated or not does not matter, there will be another and another and another LTTE to replace them as long as the Tamil people are oppressed by the Sri Lankan state. |

Vimukthi:
At least the LTTE - chick at the front does not look like a barbarian. She has a cute face.
The one right behind her look like Gaja. Edited By - AnuD - 15 Dec 2006 02:32:00 GMT |

Machang,
Unable to add more apart from the fact that it is about time we learn from our mistakes. |
