Robins, I don't remember any of the fundamental rights top my head. But Yes, If you want to go along the lines of ethnic categorization I agree that tamils in Sri Lanka is entitled to the basic fundamental rights any other ethnic community in Sri Lanka is entitle. Then again what does fundamental right to smuggle illegal drugs have to do with anyone 'getting murdered in day light at 8AM in colombo'? You were talking about drugs, correct?

First politicians and police are civilians (Remember police is a department)?
OK...whats your point? Where does it say that in any country civilians, politicians or the police have the fundamental rights to smuggle illegal drugs? |

The government has also stopped Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer from visiting Kilinochchi until a decision is made on the ban with Peace Secretariat Head Palitha Kohona telling media Monday that all contact with the LTTE would be under review until the cabinet decides on what steps should be taken against the LTTE.

Hey NEws flash Vaharai has been surrounded all along, its is SLA to north, west and south, or do you have no clue about the geography of the region???
Should this expat Tamil have to inform you about the geography of your own supposed country?

Anyway what really happened, and is continuing:
Heavy fighting was reported between Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers at Kattumurivu for the second day and the SLA attempt to advance further into LTTE territory was halted following heavy casualties, said LTTE's Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan. Lt. Col. Viduthalai, military coordinator of Vaharai kottam, died in the battle Tuesday. Ilanthirayan claimed that more than 30 SLA troopers were killed in a fierce battle.

It does not say anywhere and I don't dispute that. But the way you and many others put it Tamils are the main culprits in smuggling arms and drugs.
I wanted to point out it happens on both sides but at least on the Tamil side where SL is concerned its only allegations. |

The thin balance of sane in ltte, depending on the ltte structural leaders like balasingham, karuna and hand full of few other personals, and recently the leadership is loosing the building blocks of this sane and the results yet to be seen.
One way the coming war will be a one that leadership of ltte will fight almost alone, since balasingham's absent, the caliber, trust, maturity, and the respect he earned in the eyes of leadership of ltte is irreplaceable. Incoming replacement for balasingham maybe has the ability even more than balasingham had but not the authority like his predecessor enjoyed. The decisions he (New strategist) will make will be always under the shade of life threat and outcome of finest will always compromise with the feeling of ungenuine loyalty due to fear.
Karuna is the man, who was second in ltte command and now he is fighting against the ltte. The vacuum in east will also will come to play a heavy role in the coming war and the inability to liquidate Karuna and his organization has it's unique negative effect.
Coming war is going to start not like the previous wars started, because above simple essentials negatively playing their role on ltte.

But I have made few comments about the LTTE leadership's drug trafficking and arms smuggling activities. Last year LTTE leadership made 100-250 million through drug trafficking and arms smuggling. Since most of LTTE international fund-raising is blocked the leadership is stepping up its connections to drug cartels to generate income. And LTTE spends most of its budget on salaries for top leaders, arms and international propaganda.
