At least six LTTE cadres and a policeman were killed, during a clash between a group of STF personnel and the Tigers at Sangamankanda yesterday morning, the military said.
`STF personnel were on a route clearing patrol when they came under LTTE attack,` military spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe said.
He said according to intercepted Tiger radio communication six cadres had been killed and a large number injured in the battle.
`One STF personnel was killed in the battle while three were admitted to the Ampara hospital,` he said.Brig. Samarasinghe said the STF personnel were on their way to the Rotta area in Potuvil, to investigate a complaint that the LTTE had hijacked three tractors belonging to civilians.
He said government troops struck back at LTTE gun positions from where the Kadjuwatte army camp came under mortar and artillery attacks.
