Yes I am, I have my wife teaching me, and she speaks Sinhala too so I should learn that as well!

good to hear!

even i have been planning to attend some Tamil language classes held at the BMICH, for some time...

but, it didn't materialize yet, due to my excessive (which is bad, again) professional involvements. :-(

The Minister however stressed devolution of power would not mean the abolishing of or a substitute to the current provincial council system but rather an extension of power from the province to the village level applicable to the whole country.

What a mockery of a farce. 'Hey, you Tamils can figure out who is the local dog catcher.' 'Congratulations for thirty years of struggle.' That is the gist of this silly proposal.

All matters to do with law and order, commerce and development will reside with the Sinhala state. This is not a proposal, it is a provocation.

This is not real power sharing in any sense. All power will continue to lie in Colombo in the hands of the Sinhala neo-colonial state.

The GOSL knows that the LTTE cannot accept this. VP will be killed by his own people if he were to accept a meek surrender such as this.

But in the rejection of this proposal the GOSL hopes to pin the blame on the LTTE for the war it is about to launch to attempt to destroy the LTTE. The IC will cynically give the green light to the GOSL to carry out the military solution citing the non cooperation of the LTTE.

The Tamil liberation movement is facing a moment of truth here. What will there response be? 1) Reject the proposal outright 2) Engage the proposal and present a counter proposal.

If they chose the first then it is definitely war. The outcome of which would be disastrous for Colombo and Killinochi. They are likely to do a variant of the second option, that is , to engage the proposal politically and continue to bolster its military power.

The goal of the MR regime is the destruction of the LTTE. That is its idea of peace. The LTTE while will aware of this face a negative relationship of forces internationally. If they seem at all uncooperative the IC will not hesitate to apply pressure. However in playing the IC game the LTTE slowly but surely loses. The IC has shown that it is willing to countenance the death of amy number of innocent Tamils.

While keeping all diplomatic channels open, the only option for the Tamil Liberation movement is to prepare to deal some decisive blows upon the GOSL.

Donor Co-Chairs condemn ceasefire violations in Sri Lanka, raps LTTE for initiating hostilities

?We hold the Tamil Tigers responsible for much of what has gone wrong in the country.? - Under Secretary Nicholas Burns

Nov 22, Colombo: Issuing a joint statement on Tuesday, the Co-Chairs of the Tokyo Donors Conference, the United States, European Union, Japan, and Norway condemned the systematic ceasefire violations by both the Sri Lanka government and the LTTE and urged both parties to immediately cease hostilities.

US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns hosted the meeting of the Donor Co-Chairs on November 21 at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. to discuss the current situation in Sri Lanka and to persuade the warring parties to return to negotiations.

The Co-Chairs said that they are alarmed by the rising level of violence and condemned the LTTE for ?initiating hostilities from heavily populated areas?. Co-chairs also blamed the Sri Lankan government for responding to the LTTE instigated attacks.

Praising President Rajapaksa?s directive to open the A-9 highway to transport essential items to Jaffna peninsula ?as a one time measure?, the Co-Chairs asked the government to allow international Non-Governmental Organizations with a proven track record immediate access to uncleared areas to restart their relief work.

Responding to a reporter at the press conference by the Co-Chairs, on the Tamil homeland issue, Under Secretary Burns reiterated the US support for government of Sri Lanka to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

Strongly denouncing the LTTE as a terrorist group, Under Secretary said that LTTE is responsible for the massive bloodshed in the country. ?We hold the Tamil Tigers responsible for much of what has gone wrong in the country,? he said.

The Co-Chairs called on both sides to respect international humanitarian law and set aside demilitarized zones to protect internally displaced persons and prevent civilians from getting caught in the crossfire.

The Co-Chairs expressed their strong support for Norway's ongoing efforts to facilitate the peace process and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission's role in monitoring the Cease-Fire Agreement

May be the farce was the 'struggle' in the final analysis?
