What makes the Sri Lanka government to behave like an Israel in South Asia?

It is none other than the tacit support of the international forces to the slow genocide policy of the Sri Lanka government.

Revy - i read in a previous thread that you cannot speak/read tamil. Don't worry i can't speak/read sinhala as i was born overseas too, altho i do know when i am being talked about or sworn at! shame about the war sentiments - as far as i am concerned peace must be given a chance at every opportunity. Jaw jaw is still preferable to war war!!

BTW Welcome =)

Yes peace would be nice, but despite all their protestations this government thinks they can win militarilly, the same thought process followed by past governments until they were shown differently. So as long as one party does not want genuine peace and is aidedand abbeted by the silence or outright support of the IC, there will be no peace, until they are shown once again that they cannot win militarilly.

SO I guess this would be the LTTE's 'war for peace' strategy ;)

Did we liberate the Vanni through talks or through war?

What liberation are you talking about? Getting bombed everyday? They are holding to a part of SriLanka using the gun and bombs and you call it liberation? How come so many tamils live in Colombo if they feel Vanni is a great place to live? How come you are not going back to homeland?

What happened to liberated Sampoor?

Karuna prepared to lay down arms

Former LTTE eastern leader Karuna Amman?s organization, the Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), is ready to lay down arms, provided the repressive acts of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran are brought under control, spokesman Azaath Maulana told the Daily Mirror.

In the end it doesn't matter, as I have been saying all political options are now exhausted

Revy - agreed. The LTTE has no other options left open to them

Internationally they are banned and branded as pariahs. A political solution that is acceptable to them (i.e. Eelam) will never have international recognition.

The GOSL despite numerous setbacks, mistakes, human right violations or whatever you wish to call them, such as the orphanage bombing, the artillery attack on the civillians, the assassination of Raviraj, the murder of the aid workers, the shooting of the students, the accusations of child soldier recruitment via paramilitaries, the numerous white van disappearances still came out of this unscathed (I am still shocked) and with IC support intact if not stronger and absolutely no threat of withdrawl in aid! What's going on!

Witness the statements

The Co-Chairs particularly condemn the LTTE for initiating hostilities from heavily populated areas

The legitimate interests and aspirations of all communities, including the Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala communities must be accommodated as part of a political settlement. - hmmm, legitimate tamil grievance has gone out of the window....

The Co-Chairs welcome the Government of Sri Lanka's progress in establishing a Commission of Inquiry for Human Rights with international observers - ???? what, after all of the above, a pat on the back!!

the Co-Chairs welcome the readiness of the Government to send one convoy via the A-9 highway to Jaffna and to allow International Non-Governmental Organizations with a proven track record immediate access to uncleared areas to restart their relief work. The Co-Chairs call on the LTTE to cooperate with such initiatives.

- I.e. the ball is firmly in the LTTE's court....

I will say nothing about Nicholas Burns statement - Tamilnet has done a fine job analysiing this.... and it's pretty black and white.

Come the 27th I predict a fight to the finish - and the last man standing will not be VP...

How many Tamils are 'dsiappeared' daily in the Vanni?
How many Tamils are starving in the Vanni?
How many Tamils are herded through checkpoints to just get to different parts of their own towns?
How many crimes against Tamils go uninvestigated and unpunished in the Vanni?

THAT is freedom.

We know how the Tamils on Colombo are treated don't you? shot at 8 am in broad daylight, disappeared, registered like Jews with the Nazis, etc., that is the freedom we have from your government.

You are talking about the secondary issues of the war. Some of those measures were taken to quell terrorist activities of your fellow comrades. If there is no war, there won't be any check points and other things you mentioned. You can't ask for perfect world when your idol is waging a war. Sorry, cannot have both ways. If you want war, you have to accept the consequences as well.
