I do not interpret Mahawamsa word to word as true,as Mahawamsa includes events which took place much before the time of it's writing. Interpretation of Mahawamsa with a chauvinistic approach happened after it was discovered in 19th century. By then Signhalese Buddhists as a nationality representing the Majority of the Sri Lankan were a suppressed nationality for 400 years of European colonialism. I share thoughts with ariyalaiSB that Buddhas visits to Sri Lanka and that supposedly Buddhas words, 'Buddhism would cherish only in Sri Lanka were fabrications.' At the same time Mahavamsa is an ancient document which is rich in valid historical facts which are indisputable in many instances. It 's importance has never gone out of favour in archeology both in Sri Lanka and India for the information it contains.
Now the Aryan connection is again mytho-historical. The lion concept is as rubbish as the Genesis chapter in the Bible, or Jesus resurrection. However the possibility that Vijaya was from northern India need to be looked at in a scientific approach. The finding in 1995 genetic study that Singhalese has 25% of Bengali genes , 65% of South Indian genes and 5% of Veda genes shows that Singhalese today carries a diluted gene pool of Bengalis which could have been impossible for Singhalese to inherit living farthest from India in the South of Sri Lanka unless their predecessors were Bengalis. As the Mahawamsa says Vijaya came with only seven hundred men without any women. So they took some women from the inhabitants of the Island as spouses and the rest came form South India. Now in the 6th century when monk Mahanama wrote Mahawamsa he did not have genetic studies but he wrote what had been passed by generations to generations.
Aryans are not superior to any other race. So there is no reason to believe that modern day Signhalese are Aryans since it is a mixture of Aryan and Dravida genes they carry and they are superior to Dravidians or vv.
Do not forget that Singhalese Culture , their Language and their religion was suppressed by 400 years of European colonialism , and though it seems a long time that we got independence it was just 50 years ago. Now 50 years is more than a half of a person's life time but the ethnic conflict with the Tamils occurred in just a decade after the independence, showing it had not been easy to liberate the feelings of a nation socio-politically oppressed for centuries.
If we try to solve the issues staying at the stage where the conflict occurred we will be just fanning the fire, which is unfortunately what is happening today. Only A retrospective analysis of the history of the country, history of the conflict, 50 years of socio- political changes since independence, the losses and gains of both communities involved in the conflict can bring honourable and meaningful solution to the disaster the Tamils of Sri Lanka facing today.

Magha, what is it called when you call a people who have been subjected to mass racist terror and who try to fight back 'hypocrites'?
What is it called when you tell a people who have suffered at the hands of the state so much that they have achieved nothing by fighting for their human rights and human dignity?
When did this mass racist terror started?
What have the Tamils achieved today with 30 years of war, death, destruction, humiliation , indignity?
One of most ridiculous discriminatory measures for Tamils were, in 1971 with the introduction of media wise standardization of University admissions for science faculties. That was changed a year later and 100% district wise by population was put on and 4 years later that was also abolished. So even without an armed struggle those discriminatory measures were changed, what change did not take place was the ideology, a late 19th century philosophy of both Singhalese and Tamil politicians being carried out in the middle of the 20th century ,which was Singhalese Buddhist Chauvinism and Tamil racism. |

85% sinhalese support and happy to stave tamils. the more tamils sinhala presidnts kills the happier the sinhalese are. and the same persentage wants more presure in north in another word they happy to distry anything that move.
spend Rs 200,000 per shell to distroy 20,000 rupee worth tamils shelters.
sinhalese will burn the whole country in order to distroy some tamils assets.

25 years ago what JR Jeyawardana said and actioned was carried out by mahinda Rajapaksha.
1, did he not close the A9 Road inorder to stop the food flow to tamils.
2, even today all sinhala politicians secretly warship JR jeyawardana ,
3, mahhinda openly follow JRs policy on tamils to fuel the conflict.
4, fishing ban, forced disapearences,climate of fear
and 85 % sinhalese still support the supressing of tamils. i have heard there are still some people talk sinhalese are not bad. they are nice people etc , well there cant be two way about it.
you cant be nice if you support the killings and stavings of tamils right?
if you ask me, they(sinhalaese) are just pretending to be nice to save themselves.
they are good actors , i heard mahinda rajapaksha was a actor too.

we tamils lived with fear for decades ,people who lived in jaffna knows how many times how many busses attacked almost everyday helicopter shoot busses,car, cyclists in Vallai ( a open space ) immagine if you have to travel to work everyday?
many times pregnant womens taken to jafna teaching hospital from my town and other places their vehicles attacked.
for what we have experianced what sinhalese experiance is not even a pinch of salt.
one have to look 25 year ago sinhalese supported the killings of tamils and distroying tamils assets.
25 years latter they still support overwhelmingly to distroy tamils.
and we are telling sinhalese are nice people.
sinhala state terrorism must be defeated.
