There is no difference between tamils and LTTE.Tamils are LTTE.LTTE is tamil.

But you left out the MOST important piece of the Puzzle.
It was sponsored by the GOSL. thugs came by trains as well armed not only with sticks and clubs but WITH the VOTERS lists.

This short introduction is misleading readers of the forum. This doesn't say the history with enough details. Also, it was a group of thugs started to kill Tamils (Sinhalese and also some Muslims were there),..and after that rumors of 'Koti hits Colombo' ignite the sad chapter.
This is not the only website that's showing this video. But here is your chance to discuss it in public and show all sides of the coin.

When Tamils see this video, they dont see, how brutal the way LTTE started its struggle by killing villagers, setting off bombs in Colombo, and killing other Tamil armed groups.

I don't think you have to worry about Tamils seeing this video. I think they have either lived through these experiences or have heard about them from their families.
This type of documentary is however very important for Sinhala's to see. Because most older Sinhala's practise selective amnesia or the younger ones simply have no idea what has happened. Being able to have a free and open discussion even if the material presented is disturbing is the essence of democracy. We should be very happy for a forum such as this. |

Yes,..sorry to say as a Sri Lankan,..it was the GOSL responsibility to protect Tamils, which was not taken care well. Our country is suffering still from that error.
What I want to emphasize was, if we want to live in the Island together, we must teach this issue to young generation, with a balance picture. GOSL did errors, some Sinhala and Tamil politicians did blunts too, and LTTE born and developed through the gun culture, as an answer.
But, still, as a Sri Lankan, I dont like to think about a divided Island. So, I always try to promote the idea, 'full admin power within Sri Lanka for Tamils'. |

Yes,..I agree, Sinhalese must learn to see the issue from Tamil eye,..it helps. This video shows what the governments did very shortly, and how LTTE organized while not mentioning any of LTTE's Black Marks.
Anyway, this is a good content to discuss. |

No, bor,..I worry about it. If we see a video of other side without telling any error of GOSL side,..I feel the same, I will worry about Sinhalese seeing such a video.

Yes, its just because of the 'TIME'. This moment, we have to educate our nations with a balance picture. When a freedom struggle is expanding into near full scale war, these kind of contents only help to boost the moral of respective ethnic group.
But, what we want is to diminish those kinds of moral in the mind of Sinhalese and Tamils. It will help to build some trust.

I do agree change has to come but it has to come from within. Look at the budget. is this a budget of a GOVT talking peace!
Let me repeat this once again.
Gosl has the POWER to bring up/down the lifestyle of the entire island!
Unfortunately the LTTE has the power only to bring down the lifestyle of tghe entire island
end of the day what is needed is parity. whether its achived by everyone going up or down is determined by what the govt does.
as i say for a fed structure expressed written approval of the LTTE is not needed. 2/3 majority is needed and GOSL has it NOW.
and just to echo the point made my Vim, and i mentioned this as well we really dont need a video to tell us how we were treated.
but a forum like this is great. i have met some great sinhala folks, been able to dust off my broken sinhala and engage so all in all its definitely a good forum. |
