LTTE is preparing for a major offensive, says Sri Lanka military
Thursday, November 2, 2006, 13:58 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Nov 02, Colombo: The Sri Lankan military says the LTTE has increased its number of cadres and its heavy weapons deployment in the Kadiraweli, Mavilaru South and Kadjuwatte North areas with the aim of initiating a major military offensive.
After the peace talks in Geneva, the Tigers escalated their mortar and artillery attacks on the Kadjuwatte and Mankerni Army Camps from their positions in Kadiraweli. ?These sporadic artillery and mortars attacks intensified but were repulsed successfully by the security forces,? military spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said.
He said that with the increasing LTTE activity, there are reports that a total of 189 Tamil civilians from the Kaddimurichchikulam and Kirimichiya villages in the Tiger-controlled areas have crossed to government-controlled areas.
Action has been taken by the security forces to provide food, clothing and shelter to these displaced civilians, the spokesperson added. |

Wanni tigers don?t want a solution for the North/East question! - Anandasangaree
02nd November 2006
Mr. Ananda Sanngeri in a statement to press says that wanni tigers are disinclined to find a solution to the North and East crisis as they know that they would lose power, once the permanent solution is found to the North and East on a collective basis. That is the very reason why they have sabotaged peace talks by raising the issue of re-opening of the A9 road. On the other hand International community too does not want to see a permanent settlement to this problem, because they know they can make various influences to our country as long as this problem remains unsettled. Therefore, it is clear, that the mission of both is to mark time in this regard.
