Robins,
I also understand that JVP UNP SLFP are in a sort of a gvt, where decisions have to be made with one aim! I wonder how its going to be possible??

If we can have this, definitely there will be a good result for peace.
But for that, I hope we have to put number of fat politicians into house arrest,..lol.

MR with executive power,...
How I see his strategy...

1. Friend with JVP/JHU to get the poor mass (OK)
2. Distance JVP for the sake of peace (OK)
3. Link with UNP for the sake of peace (OK)
4. Encourage to divisions within UNP by offering chairs (OK)
5. Keep the old friendship with JVP in a distance (OK)
6. Encourage to divisions within JVP or link with it again (Pending)
7. Then go for a referendum, if needed... for NE problem (not even pending)

Thanks for your comments.

Perhaps you are right that both the GOSL and LTTE know what the IC is upto. I dont know what will make them get the despicable IC off their backs for the sake of the people of this country and the country itself.

I also agree that most of the contributors here are sharply divided on the same lines i.e. GOSL vs LTTE which doesn't help either. I would be surprised if any of them understand what it is to live in war-torn country. Last Saturday, the 28th, I boarded a Pettah bound bus at Town Hall. The bus was stopped twice between Town Hall and the Rio theatre for security checks. One irate passenger told me at the 1st check point after Town Hall opposite the YWCA, 'Mahattayo, this is the 8th time I have to get down'. I asked from where he boarded the bus and he said from Horana. When the bus was stopped after Rio, Slave Island, I was wondering what he was going to say about his 9th turn but I couldnt spot him.

If it can be so exasperating to people living in the relatively calm Colombo, what of the people living, no suffering living deaths, in the war zone? May be all the diehard supporters of war, living comfortably away from the war zone, should be forced to live in the war zone for some time to experience the reality of war. That perhaps might make them change their hardline position and opt for a just and durable peace.

I agree with your analysis, but with one factor the verious SLA commanders plotting for various objectives; not really coherent with the political objectives.... You can sense that from the Muhamalai debacle, someone's head should have rolled, it didnt, I think its a weakness on Mahinders part despite Gottabaya next to him!! Is it a game or what with a massive setback to the forces???

Sorry that I saw all your posts referring to mine this late.

Why are you so worried about LTTE mafia? It is a fact and I'm sure people like you may approve it. It is not impossible (though I cannot give you any evidence) to have a few who fish in troubled waters, in GOSL and SLA. But I have never heard or read that they are part of a worldwide mafia like the LTTE terrorists who have been caught enough times trafficking drugs, laudering money and cheating from charity from various countries all over the world. I'm sure you would have given your comments on a news article very recently appeared in this website done by a UK based organization on how LTTE is still collecting millions of pounds within UK.

I don't know what the right answer is for Iraq, but it certainly was not Saddam

Not sure if you said about the NK people, but they have no power to rise up against Kim Dung Hill what are they going to do? go against his massive army?

It is not only you who dont know the right answer, even the Americans dont have a clue. Any way, each country must deal with its own government. It is not for outsiders to make 'regime changes'. Saddam himself was propped up by the Americans. In that sense, it was poetic justice that they had to throw him out. But why destroy Iraq and its people in the process.

Same goes for NK. I am sure if the Americans leave South Korea, Kim will find it extremely hard to justify whatever he is doing. The people will then take care of him.
