This is a good proposal but the usage of the name of a person is not suitable. why can't we have a name like Serendib Air Line or something similar.

Officers in the president's office are taking the Mahinda for ride I suppose .

Radaw,

Indeed it is. I feel very little 'adarey' towards him but I like the way it sounds. Kinda like 'gonta'.

Guys,

The airline is to be named Mihin Lanka - or Mihindu Airlines, The Sunday Times learns.

See the other proposed name. It is nothing new.

MIHINDU AIRLINES is what Arahat Mihindu used to travel from Jambudveepa to Lanka, more than 2,000 years ago. :-)

Quote from Mahavamsa:

(The king) then asked: 'By what way are you come?' And since the answer was: 'Neither by land nor by water are we come,' he understood that they had come through the air.

I am surprise by the extent these MR golayas go to defend him. When MR does something irrational these people somehow find an excuse.

Check this comment 'Officers in the president's office are taking the Mahinda for ride I suppose'

Aney Aney MR is thoththa baba to take for a ride.

Magey,
'motta' yea, I like that.

Guys,

Don't be panic. This is just an idea. Still we don't know much details. Who will be the owners, who will manage it etc. All we know is the usual stuff coming from anti government medias such as Sunday leader.

However this is a good news for many Sri Lankans living in the gulf. Currently almost all unskilled workers working in the gulf are using other budget airlines such as Mahan Air. If they have their own airline I am sure they will be very happy to use it.

Please be optimistic.

He also pointed out one of the proposed names Mihin or Mihindu, was the Sanskrit version of Mahinda, President Rajapaksa's forename

Mihindu is not the Sanskritised version of Mahinda, but the complete opposite. Mihindu is the Prakrit version of the Sanskrit Mahinda. BTW, I have no idea how Mihin came into the equation. That must have taken from 'Mihintale' which is a shortened version of 'Mihindu Thalaya'. I can be wrong over this...good if anyone with a better knowledge can explain.

The fact that Mihin Lanka are still 'developing a business proposal and submitting an application to the CAA' is a clear indication of just how far they have yet to go, irrespective of 'who' and 'how much' they have sitting behind them..

In the meantime there is certainly at least ONE budget airline that will DEFINITELY launch sometime next year.. but its NOT going to be Mihin Lanka! ;)
