This attack demonstrates a few things apart from the destruction to the naval inventory
Tigers can and WILL come to the south if the Air raids targetting civilains dont stop
the economy is the key here. any attack in and around places where tourists visit is gonna affect the economy as toursists stop coming. a few days back Australia advised its citizens not to travel.
Potential commercial shipping might be put off by it. insurance and stuff like that might go up.
the Full fall out from this attack is yet to emerge and lets hope the GOSl stops and Goes for talks without having any back door policy.

Sinhala mob looted around 20 shops owned by Tamils in the JVP stronghold port city.
