Shelley,
All this mess is due to Britons.
i too think that it will have been better if Sri lanka + India was a country. Why give autonomy to a small island like Sri lanka ?
Because Britons known well that it could be a retarded bomb that could explode India's union.. |

| Yes kural, but the britosn are gone now. why can't sri lanka ask india if they'll let them in? is it fear of india rejecting sri lanka? after all, sri lanka and sri lankans are famiyl to india. racially, sinhalese and tamils ARE indians. moreover, maybe the addition of sri lanka to the indian union will help buddhism reenter india. isn't that good? |

shelley,
why can't sri lanka ask india if they'll let them in?
This question have not to be asked ! Sorry buddy but it seems you are failing to see what is really happening in Sri Lanka..
If even the majority Sinhala Buddhist do not accept devolution of power to Sri lankan minorities i don't think they will accept to join Indian Union.. It could be see as the Year's joke.
Sinhala will never want to become one of the smallest Indian community (with only 12Mios persons) !
They simply want not to be like the Tamils of Sri lankan in India ! They do not want to see what the minorities are suffering of ! Edited By - KURAL - 11 Jan 2007 21:24:36 GMT |

| Why do they see it as a joke to join the idnian union? they don;t like indians? is that why? also, it's wrong for sri lanka to claim to be the 'land of the dharma,' as buddhism originally began in india, and is an indic religion, NOt a native lankan religion. makes sense? why do YOU think it's better for lanka to join the indian union? |

Shelley,
They will fully lost the power and control of the island.
They are enjoying extra pleasures at the moment, if they join India they can not continue to kill innocent Tamils.
They cannot say that the full island is for them, etc.
If you can understand the Sri lankan conflict you will understand why they will not join India.
why do YOU think it's better for lanka to join the indian union?
It will be safer for all the people on the island, be it Tamils or Sinhalas. Edited By - KURAL - 11 Jan 2007 21:31:48 GMT |

shelley,
The only problem in Sri lanka is the devolution of power to minorities.
I don't think Sinhalas will accept devolution of power to majorities !! Edited By - KURAL - 11 Jan 2007 21:33:04 GMT |

| Kural, i see that now. they don't want to relinquish power. but why do they keep claiming buddhism is their's, and that lanka is the land of buddha dharma? we all know it's an idnain religion, brought to lanka by pricne mahinda of ashoka. Do you think it'll be good if india becomes a buddhist country again? |

shelley the question is not if it is good or not, but if it is really possible. I personally do not thing that it will happen a day.
About 80% of Indian billion population is Hindu, the 20% are Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Christians and Buddhists.
And Hinduism faith will not disappear in India, as it is a strong religion which already travelled few thousand years. Edited By - KURAL - 13 Jan 2007 19:03:07 GMT |
