(war talks, no offend OK)

Kusuman,

I agree with you.
War is all, from a wink to a missile.

SLA must understand, good intelligence is much more powerful that Air attack.

This is common for both sides, but SLA is having all the weakness due to money greedy inside people.

Berty says:

That is the only Choice you have pal...I do not think they have inflicted any major damage to the LTTE..do remember every single soldier who gets killed has a family back home somewhere in south or up country..There will be someone who will be sheding tears and cursing the govt for what they did to their kids.

Madprof says:

2 to 3 soldiers getting killed everyday by roadside bombs from the time MR was elected had families too in the south of the country. They were shedding tears for their sons at that time just like now. Now at least Tigers are made to pay for their sins.

Berty says:

This move was so badly planned and it was never called for..the talks were fixed for the 28th and what is the hurry..!!

Madprof says:

Move looks like a badly planned one, have to agree. It's pretty obvious that Tigers know the terrain and coordinates pretty well to subject anyone venturing forward to accurate artillery and mortar barrages. Knowing this, I would have been a bit more cautious and would have spent a couple of days neutralising enemy positions.

Also, I have to add none of us have enough background intelligence to comment on these matters. It's pretty clear the armed forces are trying to keep the Tigers off balance so they cannot regroup and carryout major offensives.

BB,
It is essential that the Media Center gives a full analysis of how the company fell into the trap.

Yes, but they will never do. This failed intelligence is more than enough for SLA.
_____
In the war, no excuse for any mistake.
_____
Without proper backup plans, why these people are jumping into the death?

Why do you guys think of the nationalsecurity.lk story?

All I have to say is this is pretty sad for them to be crying like this, SLA, take it like a man and stop whining about this or that, you attacked, you got beat down hard, acccept it and move forward.

All this crying just makes you look like whiny little girls and does no service to all your men who died there.

Didn't realize you guys are discussing this over here, will post some stuff I added to the other thread here then.

Please see my posts yesterday where I predicted the GoSL would slowly make their way up to the 75 Dead mark LOL, here you go latest GoSL figures:

KIA: 72 (8 officers included)
WIA: 515 (last count 115 serious airlifited to Colombo)
MIA: unknown

COLOMBO (AFP) - Planned Sri Lankan peace talks were in the balance after Tamil Tiger rebels inflicted heavy losses on Sri Lankan troops in fierce fighting that left hundreds killed or injured.

The Sri Lankan army admitted 72 of its troops, including eight officers, were killed and 515 wounded in Wednesday's fighting in the northern peninsula of Jaffna -- the biggest single loss since a Norwegian-brokered truce of February 2002

It also claimed 200 rebels were killed, a figure dismissed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061012/wl_sthasia_afp/srilankaunrest_061012095906

This is the best quote from the whole article:

Retired air force chief Harry Goonetileke said the fighting had dimmed the prospect of a resumption of talks.

'I would say that the army fell victim to its own propaganda,' Goonetileke said, referring to upbeat media reports of heavy rebel losses in recent months and official claims that the Tamil Tigers were on the run.

And now you learn what a tactical withdrawl is all about the hard way:

'The army walked into a Tiger trap,' Perera said. 'They got the army to move into an open area, boxed them in, and brought down artillery. The Tigers have proved that their fighting capability is intact,' Perera said.

However, Perera said the Tigers were still unable to combat air attacks. 'But, they seem to know their limitations. THEY WITHDRAW WHEN NEEDED only to come back and hit hard as they did yesterday,' Perera said.

ur absolutely right..Parami's killing investigation..pointed to a Army high officer who was followed and by the time they got to him..he shot himself..
Major Fonseka..attempted suicide murder..investigation showed inside involvement and a lot of high ranking officers were involved..results not published to safeguard the morale of the Forces..

This is Corruption for you bro..
Think about it..a guy who wants to join the forces & slog in the front line with 90% chance of getting killed is better or betray and walk away with money is better..u think all the soldiers are Loyal towards the GoSl..no bro...!
There are so many in HK who are asylum seekers who were ill treated under various govts..these are facts of life..if i can i will help this boys

Sri Lanka rebels hand over dead

Thu Oct 12, 2006 1:30 PM BST140

By Simon Gardner

COLOMBO (Reuters) -
Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels on Thursday handed over the bodies of 74 soldiers killed in a battle a day earlier to the Red Cross, taking the army's death toll in one of the worst clashes since a 2002 truce to at least 129.

Nearly 300 soldiers were wounded in the fighting on Wednesday around the besieged government-held enclave of Jaffna in the far north, and the violence is spurring fears that peace talks scheduled for the end of the month may be cancelled.

On Thursday, a suspected rebel roadside bomb attack in Jaffna killed five people.

Artillery duels continued to rage in the area. Residents heard fighter jets fly towards Tiger territory and explosions in the distance.

The military had already recovered the bodies of 55 troops killed during Wednesday's battle. A massive 283 soldiers were wounded.

The military believes it killed around 200 Tiger rebels. The rebels say 10 of their fighters died.

Red Cross officials were taking the 74 corpses to the southern border crossing between government and Tiger territory, where they were due to be handed over to the military.

The Tigers and the military each accuse the other of provoking Wednesday's fighting, which political analysts and the international community fear could derail the upcoming talks, scheduled to be held in Geneva.
