Forest, hi how are you? first time to write to your post.

I don't know who went on the offensive in this case. May be the LTTE, maybe the SLGovt.

Yes,
its so difficult to find how ignite the flash, as the N FDL is highly flammable.

The best way to avoid this is, start talk, TOMORROW, not fixing dates weeks away.

If GOSL and LTTE love Sri Lankans, they must give the first priority for talks and stat it at once.
Then, step by step, they can fix modalities.

'It is clear that government forces have been implicated, several sources have confirmed their implication. At the moment of the massacre the zone was totally controlled by government forces. The SLMM will only reveal its sources to an international commission

You don't need a rocket scientist to work out that it was the GOSL machinary that killed the aidworkers and Muslim workers but as usual they wait until the world forget or the reverberations die down.

They have the Security Forces and their paid up paras kill anyone who oppose their agenda.

SLA killed the 15 Muslim civilians in the schools.

SLA killed 17 aidworkers in Mutur.

STF killed 11 Muslim workers at Pottuvil, Ampara.

IF the SLMM reveals the source of information in tyhe next moment the SLA will wipe it out.

Sri Lanka peace talks in balance after fierce battle

by Amal Jayasinghe

COLOMBO (AFP) - Planned Sri Lankan peace talks were in the balance after Tamil Tiger rebels inflicted heavy losses on Sri Lankan troops in fierce fighting that left hundreds killed or injured.

The Sri Lankan army admitted 72 of its troops, including eight officers, were killed and 515 wounded in Wednesday's fighting in the northern peninsula of Jaffna -- the biggest single loss since a Norwegian-brokered truce of February 2002

The Sri Lankan army admitted 72 of its troops, including eight officers, were killed and 515 wounded in Wednesday's fighting in the northern peninsula of Jaffna -- the biggest single loss since a Norwegian-brokered truce of February 2002

It also claimed 200 rebels were killed, a figure dismissed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Government defence officials also privately admitted that the military, which appeared to be on a roll recently, had paid dearly for the failed offensive.

'There is no doubt that the army suffered a bloody nose,' said a top defence source, who asked not to be named. 'It was a big mistake. There should have been better planning.'

There will be more lessons..

Sarath Fonseka should not be allowed to take his personal revenge of LTTE by letting sinhala village boys die like flies.

Going by the numbers still more terrorits were killed compred to SLA.

If one wages a war one has to be prepared for some losses too. Still there is no way out unless the offenseve is continued till the goals are achiecved.

One soldier per terrorist still the SLA will prevail at the end. here it looks more like 2 terrorists per soldier.

On a purely military point of view SLA had the better day.

Unless there is more casualty on the LTTE this may effect the moral of the SLA adversly and the grip that the SLA has on the war should not be let loose for a minor loss like this.

GOSL formuala for reporting casualties

True number of LTTE casualties * 5 = LTTE casualties
True number of SLA casualties / 3 = SLA casualties
