Ajanthan,

Even today you are busy employing your brains to keep the butt of the Sudus clean.

Rub, rub rub spick and spane - Sudus always use you, and are making a joke of you.

Keep up the slavish traditions.

The colonialists played a dirty game of divide and rule. They left us a bad situation but then successive SL govt's made a bad situation worse instead of thinking of the long term. The Sinhalese are also an oppressed people who after many years of colonial slavery wanted to assert their rights. However this was done in such a way as to marginalize the minority communities from power - this was a huge mistake which we are still paying for.

The Sinhalese who fought for independence were socialists. The Sinhala elites were like the Tamil elites a very servile and compliant lot. There was no mass independence movement like in India because the SL elites felt closer to the British than to their own people. The old LSSP heroically stood up and rallied the people to the extent that they could against colonialism and war but it was nothing like India.

Tusker, you say to look at the facts around you now and I could not agree more. Place yourself in the shoes of the Tamil people of the North and East today who have to deal with their homes, farms and temples being occupied by Sinhala troops. Place yourself in the shoes of the Tamils who in thier own traditional areas have to go through daily harassment by Sinhala soldeirs through security checks, beatings, rapes and killings. How would you like if their was a Tamil army in your neighborhood, occupying your house, or harassing your wife and children? Would you not think about joining a Sinhala version of the LTTE to expel these forces? Any normal human being would.

If you hate the LTTE why make them so strong by supporting actions by the State that obviously push the Tamil populace to embrace them if only for their own protection.

If the security forces were pulled back into barracks and negotiations carried out with the aim of normalizing the situation of the average Tamil in the North, you would find that the LTTE will have to become more of a civilian poltical organization than a military one. If they didn't the Tamil people themselves will turn against them.

The armed forces, police and administration in the Tamil areas must be Tamil and also conversant in Sinhala and not the other way around.

Who has taught you that violence will lead to a solution? Maybe the LTTE? Maybe the State? Compromise and mutual respect and dignity will do a lot more to bring peace and prosperity to our land than the most sophisticated bombs will ever do.

Karthika,

Nice to hear from you.

I have referred to the Muslims outside the N/E.
As you say I agree that Muslims learn Tamil and Singhala.

You are conveniently diverting from the fact that the majority of Muslims are educated in the Sinhala medium and Tamil is one of the subjects.

The TRUMP CARD they have against any subjection is the distinctive ability and competitive skills built around the Singhala language.

To this extent they are also now identifying themselves as Singhla Muslima and Tamil Muslims.

There are more than 100 instances in this forum. If you would care to search articles about 4 months back. Evidence is abundantly available here.

Bissmillah hi rahuman ul rahim, Wal hamdulillahi shaithan ul rahim. This doesn't change though.

I hpoe you got the message.

Vimukthi,

I say here here. Compromise, compromise, compromise, and there is no other way.

I also say hello to Tasker; you have mellowed down a lot these days, I welcome that.

Vimukthi,

I fully agree with you about the rights of the Tamils to live at home in Sri Lanka. They were achieving that under Mrs. B, when came JVP, JR and this hot head VP.

We must boldly assume and correct our past errors.

LTTE is behaving like Dacoits in India. It has proved again and again that it is not loyal, neither to Tamils nor to other Lankan peoples.

How can these worn out idiots encourage closing of the Jaffna University depriving young people of great opportunities opening up in the region. These young ones are yet to blossom but the vultures want to cut them off just to preserve their bank accounts. Sadly, at 20, they are very easy to be manipulated.

How can they expel Sinhala students from Jaffna and Vauniya ?

Security forces has to learn to act without causing hardships to Tamils. Better teach them Tamil than English. I believe that every parliamentarian must be fluent in Tamil.

In this forum, we can promote loyalty among peoples - first to Lankans, next to the rest of the world. If majority of Sinhala and Tamils choose the path of peace, we can arrive at a solution.

But when I see comments by the LTTE supporters, I get discouraged to a non violent solution. It seems LTTE has also become a lucrative money spinner for many a contenders.

Karthika says:
Sinhalese, mainly the leftists, fought against Brits but Tamils fought to get some MBEs and employment from Brits.

Fought??? When? where? How?
Ha..Ha..Ha Ho..Ho..Ho.. Hu..Hu..Hu He..He..He..I just can't stop laughing.
This is the best joke ever.

Don David (a clerk) also known as Anagarika Dharmapala, the son of Mr. Don Carolis (carpenter/ furniture dealer) and Mrs. Mallika Hewavitarne was the only leftist who was just barking at the Brits.

I repeat,
It was the Indian leaders Mohandas Gandhi along with Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohamad Ali Jinna fought for it peacefully, Subash Chandra Bose fought for it violently, and Sri Lanka got it free along with the Indians without any sweat.

We should not forget the service rendered by Sir Ponnampalam Ramanathan at that time and the Sinhalese including Anagarika Dharmapala called him a hero.
