SLTB and Private Buses to share timetables?
Thursday, 5 January 2006 - 1:18 AM SL Time

The SLTB and Private Buses are to share timetables in the near future, said Transport Minister A H M Fowzie after discussions with provincial council Ministers and Transport Officials recently.

The minister who earlier insisted that shared time tables would not be handled until the SLTB fleet was strengthened said that the time table will be organized in order to protect 40 percent of the SLTB while 60 percent would belong to the private sector.

A trial run would be initiated on all routes beginning at the Talangama depot.

A decision was taken that no new route permits will be issued and it will be implemented in a manner that they cannot be tampered with and the revision of bus fares by rectifying anomalies was to be stopped and investigations were to be held into the matter.

Furthermore, at least one night turn has been made compulsory for private buses operating on countrywide routes and bus services on new rural routes will be introduced after proper survey.

The need for a national policy to work out problems ensuing in the state and private transport services were also brought out and it was added that most problems faced by the private service would come to a halt if implemented.

Thanks Mr Fowzie,
You should be strick on these laizy CTB bus workers.

These bus workers come to the office and do complaining to each other over the buses brake downs, but dont do anything to get the bus run.
They are certain that if the buses run or not, the government will pay thier salary.
These people who waste government's money should be given the capital punishment.

One thing I have noted is that Minister Fowzie is the only one who has a vison and ideas about improving things whatever the ministry he is given. I remember seeing reports of his other ideas in bringing back the level of services we used to have before the war corrupted all Sri Lankans civil servants top to bottom, to be fair, except a few.

If all other ministers think in this same frequency, leaving the war to be handled by the Pesident and the forces, we still can improve the lifes of the average person in Sri Lanka.

Well done, Mr.Minister!
