UNP manifesto promises 300,000 jobs as immediate relief
Tuesday, 27 September 2005 - 2:51 AM SL Time

UNP is to announce its manifesto today holding out immediate relief such as creating three million jobs, increasing the Samurdhi allowance four fold and reducing the fertilizer prices to Rs. 550 a bag.

The manifesto also promises to double the national income, eliminate the debt burden of future generations and to take a series of measures to eliminate poverty.

The manifesto spells out the plans and programmes aimed at achieving a 10 percent economic growth and as an immediate step it proposes to generate 300,000 jobs in the public sector and private sector.

The UNP manifesto also focuses on a strategy to ensure the ownership of a plot of land, a home, and a savings account for everyone,

This is Stupid... Ranil is now trying to match Mahinda when it comes to promises....It seems like RAnil is learning from CBK, Mahinda and the JVP.

This is what SL elections are....

If people of SL expect any of these IMMIDIDATELY then they are fools - no matter who gives these promises..

Ranil - its Far better to loose an election than bring your self down to the level of Mahinda + JVP. U were able to win in 2001 with out any false promises. U can do it again....with out stooping to the Level of Mahinda and the JVP. You just lost a little bit of my respect.

Yep, I can now go back to SL, the relief of an immediate billet, a great comfort for me.

Me, now washing the white man's latrines, can do it for the mighty Aryans.

Dear UNPers,

This is only a quiz and a Feeler in the domain.

UNP is not going to say the real thing until they declare
what they really..... want to do with the economy.

300000 jobs? It?s a kind of Rocket Science...
...Person who created this manifesto has merged all the previous manifestos and ended up 300K jobs...

Can we sue against these parties if they fail to implement their promises......???

Don't cry Anizam,

You are yet to see true version of Ranil (forgone the vision?). He will borrow or copy more from Mahinda/JVP alliance and becoming a similar joker like Mahinda & Co.

He will solve the war in the kitchen and war in the North & East (with the support of JVP?)

Yesterday Ranil said now his task is not giving a solution for the war or economic trouble of the country... now he is facing the problem of building the trust of people over the government.

Well said Ranil!

I did not see this thread earlier. But vthis is pure insanity. There is no way UNP or anybody generate 300,000 jobs which actually involves a monthly pay. May be voluntary jobs with no pay. I am sorry but this is not right.

Now if ranil at least gave a time frame (like 5 years) during which measures will be taken to create 300,000 jobs that would make sense. Plain lying would only insult people's intelligence.

SK63 -

Ranil lost 12 elections because he didnt know how to LIE.. now he has learnt from CBK, Mahinda and the JVP... we will see what happenes now.

I agree with your comment about 300,000 jobs being unrealistic in one year. Give it 4-5 years and its a very real possiblity.

The UNP manefesto is out. Except for the wild promise on jobs, its a VERY GOOD one. Srikotha seems to have FINALLY got its act together.... :) :)

Anizam,
There may be problems. But who gave most of jobs to educated people. more than 40000 to graduates. (I agree there are some problems, but we cant forget JVP's contribution to that). Did UNP government solve those problems :-))
Garments can't develop the country. We don't want to export underwears :-)) Ask your dreamy leader to do something worth.

Weerasooriya :

I agree with you that there will be problems on most issues. To begin with only 10000 of the so called 40000 graduates have been given employment. However, that is not the point. How have these 10000 contributed to the country? Have you seen any change in the efficiency of the public sector??? NO.. why? because there isnt really any work to be done.. those people just come to work, waste time and then go home....:)

Any government can hire a bunch of people but at a huge cost to the country or arbitrarily spend money on politically motivated projects. How are these people payed??? By printing money. And do you know what happens when a government prints money with out any limits??? INFLATION!!! :) :) Thats how the rate of inflation went up from 4.4% in 2003 to 18.8% today and still climbing.
So today the whole country is suffering.

Also, When you spend money to pay NON-Pruductive people like this you have no money left to spend on any PRODUCTIVE thing like infrastructure. Thats why this past government could not start any major infrastructre projects during the past 1 1/2 years :) :)

On the other hand look at the private sector. There are 4.5 million people PRODUCTIVELY employed in it. Not only are they NOT a burden on the country but today the countries economy is kept going ONLY becase of the Private sector. :) :) WHO is responsible for the private sector playing such a key role in the economy???? :) :)
