Yesterday, September 26, 2005, marked the 46th death anniversary of the founder leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike.
Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike was assassinated, at his Rosmead Place residence, by a Buddhist monk who belonged to a right-wing political group that conspired to kill the Premier.
S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and Mrs.Sirimavo Bandaranaike, who was to succeed her husband as the SLFP leader and Prime Minister in 1960, also to becoming the first woman Prime Minister in the world, were commemorated at the Bandaranaike Samadhi Horagolla yesterday.
Sunethra Bandaranaike, eldest daughter of the Bandaranaike family and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse were among those who paid floral tribute at the Horagolla Samadhi yesterday morning. Among the others who paid floral tributes were members of the Diplomatic corps, service commanders, trade union leaders and SLFP parliamentarians, local government representatives and grassroots level SLFP officials who, had gathered to pay their respects to the two late leaders.
S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, was the Leader of the House in the UNP government of 1948 and also held the portfolios of Local Government and Health till 1951. He then with a few other UNP members, including D. A. Rajapakse, father of Premier Mahinda Rajapakse, crossed over to the Opposition to form the new left of centre political party the SLFP.
A product of an English grammar school and the Oxford University, on his return to Sri Lanka, he was soon disillusioned with his conservative and pro-British thinking and lifestyle followed by the members of his family and kinsfolk and chose the white cloth and tunic style national dress made of handloom following the thinking of Mahatma Gandhi.
S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was an intellectual and orator, whom the Indian Premier Jawaharlal Nehru called `The Silver Tongued Orator of Asia`. Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike was the housewife turned political leader. It was her natural charisma which represented the traditional Sri Lankan woman that brought her to power in two elections both with clear majorities in 1960 and 1970.

SWRD, the father of chaotic Sri Lanka.
The date 26th Sept, to be made a day of national rejoicing.
He is the clown, who single handedly, destroyed SL on all fronts.
A great piece of human thrash.
AnuD, as usual, out of topic.

Where were the beloved daughter & the 'pin gona' Anura on this historical day?
CBK came up to this highest post thanks to her dead parents and she 'apparently' was not in the country to pay homage to the two pillars of the SLFP.
What a selfish woman!
One who can not thank her own parents, can not thank an entire country.
Her last days are nearing.
Perhaps CBK & AB must be finalizing their departure plans to Norway or Wanni, after the elections. That is why 2/3 of the family was absent at the ceremony!! |

| SWRD took the shortest cut to come to power. In 1956 we gave the required majority to him. He made all express trains to halt at Veyangoda. The people from Veyangoda boarded train without tickets claiming 'ape aanduwa; apidda ticket makkadathe/' and brought indecipline in the country. Oxford education without culture was the problem. How can these people follow Ghandi without any knoeledge of 'DHAMMAPADA'. Do you know that he did not know the singhala alphabets but made Singhala OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. Later THE HOUSEWIFE MADAM was installed and Flix Dias (Banda) manupulated the economy and the politicians lived well feeding powdered mik to the pigs when poor children were without milk for consumtion. YES ALL THESE HAS TO BE CELEBERATED AT TAX PAYER'S MONEY. |

| Nandalal, certainly not to Vanni. Vanni has some law and order and sense of direction. She has a special place in hell. Until then some detention centre. God only knows what she is up to in the land of hurricanes, typhoons and tornadoes. |
