Lowering the age of consent in no manner whatsoever means that the Sri Lanka has been turned into a intimacy workeers paradise! This is an absurd assumption! Sri Lanka already has its good amount of intimacy workers from both the male and female genders. Lowering the age of consensual intimacy between two persons and one person's decision to join the intimacy different are completely two different options. Countries such as Thailand, Japan, etc, all have very low ages for intimacyual consent. Japan has it age of intimacyual content at 12. However, no one can become a intimacy worker until they are 18. In Sri Lanka, it was only in 1995 that the age of consent was increased from 12 to 16. In my opinion, I believe the number of intimacy workers has increased rather than reduced during that period. This clearly shows that the legal age of intimacyual consent has absolutely nothing to do with an individuals decision to join the intimacy trade!

However, what we may have to be cautious over from this point is the increase in paedophilia, which I believe would become harder to tackle with an low age of consent. What would have been better was to maintain the legal age of consent at 16 but increase the age where statutory rape would be committed by someone who is 18 and above when he/she has intimacyual relations with someone below the age of 16, to someone who is 21 and above. The decision to consent to intimacy between anyone below 21 and above 13 would be upto the individuals themselves. The UNP's call to increase the age of consent to 18 is absurd in this day and age when we are living in intimacyually active society and where everyone is informed about intimacy and related matters from a younger age. Also ,the fact countries like Sri Lanka had a much lower age of consent in earlier days certainly points out the acceptability or normality of early intimacyual relations between teenagers in our society.

What are we up to?. First it will be lowering the age of consent. Then it will be the acceptance of single mother. Later legalising marriage of the same intimacy. If people want this type of activities let them go to the so called developed WEST and worship $$$$.
We cannot forget our culture and heritage. Have we forgotten our religion. How are the JHU members safe guarding the interest of the religion - building Statues of Buddha on road forks and market places - propagating communalism in the same time. What is it that prevents a Buddisht reborn as a Tamil and vice versa. The best way to safeguard any religion is to Practise it sincerely. We should educate all young preists in theology and make it compulsary like in christian seminaries.

Age of consent should be lowered to 12. Any two (or more) people must be allowed to have intimacy if they want. All harresment regarding intimacy should be made illegal. Prostitution must be legalized. Single mothers, same intimacy marriage all these are human rights.

Anybody who want to practice a religion can do so. Others who don't want to practice any religion can be that way.
