The JVP expressed confidence yesterday that Mahinda Rajapakse would emerge victorious in the presidential election on November 17 with a bigger majority than any president had ever got.
JVP Leader Somawansa Amerasinghe addressing Mr. Rajapakse`s inaugural rally at Town Hall said that if constitutional changes were to be made they would be made according to the wishes of the people and not to please or placate terrorists in the Wanni. He said the battle on November 17 would be a battle between the camps representing the friends and enemies of the nation. He said the leader of the enemy camp had been clearly identified as Ranil Wickremesinghe as he would help those who wanted to divide the nation. 'Those who do not want to be part of that sin and those who oppose Ranil Wickremesinghe but dislike voting for Mahinda Rajapakse should either refrain from voting or destroy their votes. That would be a great service to the nation,' Mr. Amerasinghe said.
He charged that the UNP leader was ready to betray the nation for a few lakhs of votes but he expressed confidence the people would not betray the nation to Mr. Wickremesinghe. He said the country`s sovereignty and territorial integrity were facing a death threat and the choice before the people was clear.
He said he was confident that hundreds of thousands of people would rally behind Mr. Rajapakse and give him a massive victory.
Mr. Amerasinghe said his party trusted Mr. Rajapakse and believed that after his first term as President there would be a constitutional change and Mr. Rajapakse would continue as prime minister with executive powers.
JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa predicted Mr. Rajapakse would win the biggest victory ever won by any presidential candidate.

| Present UNP is limited to ?class? mates of Ranil and they do not have common mans touch like under past UNP leaders. Their concerns only limited to full fill dreams of their close associates. This time all those people will learn a good lesson from the voters. |

| The biggest margin of victory recorded in Sri Lankan Presidential election was in 1994 when Chandriaka won the elections. This was mainly due to her appealing to the constituency as a 'peace dove' and obtaining the votes from the North and East. This time around although the self proclaimed 'patriots' have been mobilized to support Mahinda the election result will be close contrary to the prediction of Weerawansa. |

| The Prime Minister and JVP have run this country for over a year now and have really made the country slump. Whether they have some truth to what they say now, I hope the SL people are not foolish enough to let these people rule the country for another 6 years because their recent reign has been dreadful. |

| Yamunal, Tamils cannot be cheated anymore. There are people promissng various things in this website too on their behalf, but Tamils can only watch the world passing by. 'Once bitten twice shy'. But here they were bitten sooooooooooooooo many times. Just forget about the election. Whether Rama rules or Ravana rules, it does not make any difference at all. |

I am glad Somawansa recognises that his policy has alientated a lot of SLFP'er from voting for Mahinda. This lot could make the difference between Ranil and Mahinda. |

I'm happy to see Ranil's advisers (must be JVP plants) organizing a Sangha Sammelanaya...Just to copy Mahinda's association with Buddhist monks!
Secular politics are covered by Sivura now!
Don't be surprised if Ranil comes out with MyThree's sari on his Shoulders..just to copy Mahinda's silly shawl!!!
Wonder how long will he take to grow a mustache too!!

The Tamils must vote strategically. To be indifferent to the elections when the country is at cross road and say it does not matter whether it is Rama or Ravana would lead to the extremists winning. |

As Bose said - this initself is AMPLE proof that the moderate SLFP votes will not vote for Mahinda. A 5% abstaining or voting with Ranil and Mahinda is KAPOTHI!!! :) :)
For Somawansa to say something like that in the FIRST joint rally it self shows what a big problem this will be for Mahinda. |
