He must first understand why a teacher in Australia is earning a higher salary (greater purchasing power) than a teacher in Sri Lanka. Simple, Australia is a developed country, if one is interested in improving the lives of Sri lankans he should develop the country, but keeping SATHOSA open for 24 hours would not make it happen.
Finally do not show this to Ranil he would not understand anyway. |

Queuing was there in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and in many other countries during the early days of their development. I am sure he could understand that many big industries in SL today were established prior to 1977 and the rupee had a high value. Well the past is gone, i do not see him talking any recipes for future development.
I wonder why BG is still riding on the back of JR, simply because since 1977 there is no other good things that UNP has done to the people. In fact JR is the main cause for LTTE problem, corruption, and what is not. I ate jaggery, stayed in the queues and ate other stuff, so what? did anybody starved. A teacher in those days, pre 1977 could maintain a car with his salary alone. Could BG could do it without tuition today?
SL need some leaders with a vision and he is not one of them, perhaps maybe to Ranil. |

Mucha,
What about keeping some body on a 24hr watch on a coconut tree in several places along the coastal belt with a cell phone as an early warning system ,could be economically cost effective and he can get the free ride faster?
Cheers!

| Bandula is right to say that there is no fully open or closed economies today. We as a Small country cannot dictate economic terms to external world. But we could decide what is good for our country. We cannot go back to pre-1977 era again either. Globalization has taken over the world whether you like it or not. We need to sustain open economic policies and move forward. For that to happen one must have a clear and practical vision. I wonder whether Mahinda back by JVP have it? |

Most Academics both in SL and outside have very little practical knowledge. Its all theory. However, some JVP supporters are attacking Bandula with out specifically saying what he said was wrong.
ALMOST EVERY WORD BANDULA HAS SAID IS TRUE. If you look at the most recent Centeral bank report released in August, everything Bandula said can be varfied. So those people attacking bandula should say which part of this article they disagree with. Just HOOTING alone is not enough, although we all know that this is all the JVP can do.
If you dotn like what bandula says, then lets look at the ALTERNATIVE. We have a first class PIN GONA from Hambanthota running for president. What is his policies on the economy???? ABSOLUTELY Nothing. He doesnt have a BRAIN nor a MIND of his own to come up with a economic policy or for that matter anything else.
Then we have those Sakkili JVP RATS - what is their solution. One is to UNPLUG the economy from the rest of the world and we all saw how they unplugged it during the past 1 1/2 years. They only UNPLUGGED their BRAINS and the BRAINS of their SUPPORTERS. NOTHING else.
Then these JVP SWINES also have a solution to the cost of living. That is to have a lottery. :) :) - This more than displays BRAINS of these two BAFOONS.
So even if you dont like Bandula, He is a far better person to talk about the economy than a PIN GONA from Hambanthota or a Sakkiliy WEERAMONKEY from the JVP.
:) :)

Dear Anizam,
I agree with you, but 90% of acadamics think the theory and practise is the same, because they teach theory and do reasearch on problems and bring up new theories into this world. That is what their job for the rest of their life, so what you said is correct.
But there is more to the story.
Politicians [with the help of citizen (that is you and me and them), because citizen chose who should be in the political field for them)] make the policies with those therories according to their understanding of these theories.
Beaurocrats tri to implement those policies in practical situations and citizen have to suffer if the theories are not practical.
That is what happenning in this world every where, not only in 'developing' countries, but also in 'develop' countries.
That's why we have wars, inefficency in helping affected in 'Katrina' Tsunami, etc.
Converting people into NGOs beliefs etc. all sort of problems.
We never be able to overcome all these difficulties because we never have perfected people in this world.
There may be some perfected people but never all will be perfected that's why we never can have a utopia. |
