CBK discusses LTTE child conscription with UNICEF
Tuesday, 20 September 2005 - 2:55 AM SL Time

President Chandrika Kumaratunga, during her visit to the UN, had met Executive Director UNICEF, Ms.Ann Veneman and discussed the continued conscription of children by the LTTE in the North and East and the gross violations of the CFA.

`In this context they discussed the continued reports of the LTTE`s conscription of children in the North and East of Sri Lanka and the need to draw awareness of these gross violations of the CFA to the International Community. In June this year Ms.Venemen took up this issue with the LTTE during the post-tsunami visit to Sri Lanka. During the meeting Ms.Veneman said she appreciated the work done by the government of Sri Lanka regarding the Child Protection Authority`s work and congratulated the President on her approach of viewing the three scourges of the world, poverty, disease and terrorism, , a release from the President`s Media Unit yesterday (19) said.

I haven?t forgotten the International Tamil community.

As one of the most significant out comes of the 1983 Communal riots in Sri Lanka, among the migrated Sri Lankan Tamil community, we are witnessing a proportionate number of hybrid professionals, intellectuals and entrepreneurs, within the international Tamil community. Their manner to hared work and dedication has produced immense results socially and culturally.

It?s a known fact that the international Tamil community is playing a vital role for the Tamil freedom struggle in Sri Lanka. Initially by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTTE) the struggle was carried out by using violence means, but today a high proportionate of the struggle is carried out using diplomatic means, on the advice, received by the intellectuals in international Tamil community.

By keeping democracy in heart, professionals, intellectuals and entrepreneurs in the international Tamil community could play a vital role in finding a accelerated political solution for the ethnic problem, that benefits, all the ethnic communities in Sri Lanka.

Freedom:

The way you pasted this posting you look like an intellectual.

How ever, outside believe that most of the tamil expatriates before 1983 were educated and able to contribute to the new society.

But the tamils who came after 1983 have screwed
their name and earned bad reputation for every tamil.
If you are tamil they ask 'ha you are the guys, that suicide bombers in Sri Lanka'.

Thank you Madam President. Your vision is poor no doubt. Your very government is reducing the legal age for sexual intercourse from 16 to 13 so that your hungry wolfs could have fresh chickens after being tired with having the same old thing. Every country in the world is increasing the age of consent and you are unique by bringing it down. May be that you often claim that you are a mother and perhaps cohabited with a group of blokes who killed your children's father if not your husband. It may be your unique maternal instinct perhaps. But you are only worried about children being recruited by the LTTE. If at all they may be recruiting around 18, which is near the acceptable age. A child for law is under the age of 18. Even otherwise these under-aged children are fighting for their rights and freedom a noble cause to liberate themselves from wicked creatures like you. You are the monster who with Evil Kadir deprived children of even milk food and medicines and bombed places where children were housed. Still children in the North are suffering from the delayed effect of your most inhuman embargo. It is good for these children to die in battle than being ruled by an evil woman like you or any of your cronies. It is true that you are reading something written by some other evil but yet you and others are directly responsible for this curse. One evil is no more and you are in the verge of going out. Chandrika, you have absolutely no moral right to talk about this 'children' issue and world too know what an evil, power hungry, frigid woman you are.

Nada,
Elakiri.
I agree with you 100%
Reducing the age of consent to 13 years is ridiculous.

AnuD, you are not accurate in your evaluation. It is however, true that there is a big difference between the Tamils who migrated before and after 1983.Prior to 83, most of them were professional and basically 'non-violent' people. But after 83 it was a mix. There are good and bad, professionals and non-professionals. But overall even the bad ones have become much more productive and innovative, which they could not achieve back in SL. Abroad, the opportunities are more and hence they were able to exhibit their creativity. Many have become economically powerful. They were able to exploit the resources and work toward set targets. Even look at food industry, importing food stuff from SL and elsewhere, restaurants, all are thriving. They are hard working and creative. These guys and the LTTE have put the Tamils in the world map. But you have to ignore few rotten eggs. Not all foreigners think that they are suicide bombers and even if they think, they have plenty of regards for them. There are plenty of foreigners who are now going in search of vadai, thosai and iddli. A white guy who visited me on an official visit insisted in having rice and 'irachi curry (meat curry) and he really meant when I saw him eating that.Tamils are a race who could adjust themselves well and being their culture are always productive.

Bandula-

JR's open ecomomy (fully open) which you talk is a failure
in Sri lanka.
The open economy is so good , we have sold our mothers and sisters to the middle east for a usd 100.
our mothers nad sisters have been compelled and chased away to the middele east. This is the fact.

If Ranil is elected he will sell everything to multinational companies including the General hospital services.
Nothing will be free as advised by the IMF etc.
If you need that type of economy you better vote for Ranil.

We need to have a system like in China.

Once they reduce the 'rape age' at least married women will be spared

Mr.M.Remedius, human rights lawyer said Monday that Ms Ehambaram Wijakala, one of the two women complainants in the Mannar rape incident is reported to be missing and the other victim Ms Sinnathamby Sivamani has received threats that she will be killed if she gives evidence in Anuradhapura High Court where the case is listed for hearing on Wednesday September 21, legal sources said.

Twelve policemen of Sri Lanka Police and two soldiers of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) have been indicted with rape and torture of these two complaints while in the custody of the Mannar Police during the month of March in 2001, legal sources said.
