Well Anizam,
If they say it is not from the 63% it is ok. But normally what we understand by saying '15% drop of poularity' is from previous percentage, that is from 63%. If you don't believe me you can ask someone who has learned mathematics properly, not just anyone, like your colleague.
No offense. |

Amara:
I think i work with some very educated people, who have done this time and over. So dont worry about who i ask.
When someone says 15% it means 15% of 100.
When someone says 15% OF 63%, then what you say is correct. The report said 15%.....(NOT 15% of the previous number).
Yes its a 15% drop, COMPARED to the Previous figure but NOT OF the previous figure. Hope you see the difference.
The Key thing about opinion polls is - it is EASY for even the uneducated to understand. The way you are calculating, an average man on the street cant understand what it means.
The KEY about an opinion poll is - its a RANDOM sample. U take one and then move on to ANOTHER RANDOM Sample. U dont go back and sample the people you already have. Whats the point of that?????? NOw if you were to Sample the same group of people TWICE, then what you say has some validity. But why would you do that? The whole idea is to make the Sample group as diverse and RANDOM as possible.
According to my colleges this group P3 did many survers during the last PE in the US. However, no one ever gave the twist to their numbers, your trying to give. :) :)
Cheers

Anizam,
Once I told you the JVP could twist the facts and paint a different scenario altogether. It seems the JVP has penetrated the higher echelons of the UNP. To the level of speech writing for Ranil!
Ranil has told in Agalawatta that the meaning of pasdun korale is marshland filled for growing cinnamon and it was done by the Parakramabahu the great. By doing that Kind Parakramabahu developed Raigama as a regional kingdom!!
Do you know that the posters appearing in Sri Lanka ridiculing those remarks made by Ranil???
Apparently Ranil has got Sri Lanka History Foot in the mouth disease!!
JVP claims that pasdun derived from pas yodun, ie in Five yoduns.
They also say that Ranil has mixed up Parakramabahu the great and Parakramabahu the 6th! What a silly mistake to Do! Now I'm convinced that a JVP member is writing speeches for Ranil!
Worst of all, trying to identify with the Parakramabahu the great, Ranil makes his TAMIL supporters uneasy. Because Parakramabahu the great has concurred all Tamil powers in Sri Lanka!
Not only that, the local newspapers say that Karu is organizing a Sangha Sammelanaya for Ranil's victory! The secular guy is hiding under a Sivura (Yellow robe)????
Think of it.
Cheers

Ranil ta Jayawewa by all Ranil supporters.
Mahinda ta Jayawewa by all Mahinda supporters.
Eaalamata Jayawewa by all LTTE supporters.
These are the only meaning of most of the writers of this forum.
Bless of Triple Gem! God bless! Ahinsaka Janathawata Jayawewa in an undivided country...without any war....within meaningful economic policy! thats my humble wish. |

Hey anizam...
you got trapped nicely ha??...i knew that other than cut and pasting you were incapable of understanding a small logic...and thanks for proving it with evidance in this forum...too sad...thats why i didn't give the complete answer...
when you say the popularity of MR has dropped by 15%, it means that still there is 85% popularity from the earlier 63%...(if you don't agree, ask from some one who has done mathematics or logics)
so as Amara correctly pointed out the current popularity is 53.55% which is 63%*85%...(and don't try to cover up your brain capability by saying the drop is in percentage points...coz if it is in % points they would have strait away say that it has reduced to 48%)
hope at least now you would realise the level of your intelegence...my dear before this many of us knew about that...but now you may have realised the for your self about the level of your logical capabilities...so what i would suggest you is, please don't go in to logical arguments with others...coz it ll strip you off...so limit your comments to cut and paste material...BTW this is just a suggestion...but if you are in the business of striping...you may not worry about it...
and you know what sri lankans call these types of things...'URAGE MALU URAGE PITE THIYALA KAPANAWA WAGE'...heheheheheh
have a nice day...
Chao...
