Presidential candidate and opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told a massive gathering that flocked the Colombo Town Hall grounds yesterday that if elected to power, he would resolve both the North - East war and the `Kitchen War`.
An upbeat Wickremesinghe , told a special assembly of the UNP, attended by a crowd estimated at around 150,000, that two wars need to be resolved in this country, namely the North-East war which has dragged on for many years and the more recent `Kitchen War`.
Wickremesinghe, said that during his tenure as Prime Minister he told the LTTE that he was willing to negotiate on the basis that the country will not be divided.
`It was due to this stand that I was was able to persuade the LTTE to drop their Eelam demand and sign a ceasefire agreement which even President Kumaratunga has said was beneficial to the country. If elected president I will build on this and resolve the North 'East issue without dividing the country.`
Wickremesinghe, said that like Sri Lanka`s first Prime Minister D.S.Senanayake, he will unite the country and not divide it.
`Since I a man who keeps my word, you can safely place your trust in me.`
Wickremesinghe, said that another important war that has to resolved is the `Kitchen War` , as prices of all essential commodities have reached unimaginable proportions.
The country`s problems, he said cannot be solved without first addressing problems at home and this is where the `Kitichen War`, was important.
`Elect me your President and I will bring down the cost of living, provide employment to the youth and prevent the division of the country by achieving an honourable peace that would be fair by all citizens of this country.`
Wickremesinghe, assured that university students can under his presidency look forward to complete the course of study within the stipulated period unlike at present when it drags on for many years.
He warned that the country cannot deviate from the Tokyo declaration since this would give the LTTE an excuse to go back to war saying that the Sinhalese were not interested in peace.
`That is why the forthcoming election is important.Give me the opportunity to get rid of separatisam and also improve your standard of living`
At the outset, Wickremesinghe , greeted the crowd by saying that he was contesting the presidential election not only because he loves the country but because he loves its people more.
He urged the gathering to go out into the countryside and spread the message that the United National Party as its name signifies was for a united country that gives all its citizens the opportunity to live with dignity and self respect.

Wow, the confirmation, that he wants to resolve the North-East & the Kitchen wars, sends a thrill up & down my spine.
The Macho He Ranil, determined to put an end to the North East fiasco.
The she, feminine Ra nil to bring the cost of living down & conscript the Male chauvinist race to help in the household duties.
Ra nil, a real He-She, if he ever gets to Sydney the Taxi Club, the place for him / her to be.
The Taxi Club, that's where all the He-She's in Sydney, meet come every Friday to Sunday.

I urge the readers of this forum to think twice before voting for the UNP. The SLFP have a much better chance of resolving this conflict than the UNP, If you're for a unitary Sri Lanka then vote for SLFP.
P.S Ranil will definitely end up separating the country!

In 1994 the President said the same thing that a SLFP Govt will solve the ethnic problem but after 11 years we are at square one.In fact they are unable even to decide on the venue for discussions. What makes you think that the 'Political mob' supporting Mahinda will agree to any form of devolution, having opposed District Development Councils in 1981 and Provincial Councils in 1987? |

As I said before Ranil is riding on the Trigger issues.
Ranil loves the country
Ranil loves the people more than the country = Patriots' KATTE PUSS.
RANIL WILL NOT DIVIDE THE COUNTRY
Ranil is the ' Kitchen Mate '
Father Mahinda is less significant in this arena.
Ranil knows and appreciates the women voter bank.
He appreciates the need, to greet them 'Sweet dreams'.
Poor Father Mahinda..whine...whine...and whine....

The SLFP have been in power for a very long time, and just when we are about to reap the dividends of all their efforts, we can't afford to have Ranil & Co fumble the play.
We should give SLFP one last chance before we look for alternative options.. Hell! we've waited for over 2 decades, what's another 4-5 years?
VOTE SLFP, VOTE UNITY!

| What is wrong with Mahinda Rajapakse is that he does not come off as being sincere. He keeps on contradicting himself on all his policies. The same thing is true of CBK and Anura! Ranil despite his perception as not being a charismatic leader, if viewed objectively, has behaved with strong leadership qualities especially when CBK was dissolving parliament at her whim and fancy! He stood his ground and respected the law and let her go on. She rode on his achievements - the CFA which her govt. kept saying would hold. If Sri Lanka goes back to war - it is going to be the greatest blunder with insurance rates on imports and exports rising etc and the cost of living going up even further. The JVP and JHU are out of reality! Ranil has a blueprint for progress and hopefully he will do a better job. The corruption in the UNP still persists but hopefully as the country progresses and better leadership arises the corruption will be eradicated. |

Last time they reduced kitchen war through 'Munda gas'. What happened to Munda gas and to those who bought gas cylinders???????????
People should send 'katin bathala kola hitawana' politicians home. But can not guarantee that as well because of this evil National list!! |
