Buddhist monks are not the only religious group who entered politics. There were so many Christian fathers who were in politics.

Juan Macarios the President or Pri-minister of Cypres in 70s was a Chritian Father.

There were so many instances that Chritian Church was involved in training gurillas fight against the rulers. I can remember Nicaraguwa was one of them.

In Punjab their hosliest shrine was allowed for hiding of terrorist untill Indira Ghandi burst in.

our Buddhist monks dont come to that level

I dont agree with our buddhist monks doing politics but It is unfare these insane oppertunists make use every oppertunity to insult buddhism.

Buddhism has become a universal enemy.

I read news about German elections yesterday. Their main political party is 'Christian Democratic' who got 35% of votes.
Sri lankan Buddhist are more civilized in this regards becasue we will not cast our vote to religious parties.

Even our JHU can get less than 5%.

Are Germans practising White Christian Hegamony? Or we are practising Sinhala Buddhist Hegamony?

i trust you, but guy is there a party called 'CHRISTIAN-PEOPLE' or whatever in SL ?

NO, BUT FOR BUDDHIST IT EXISTS ! JHU IS A ONLY BUDDHIST MONKS PARTY !

NOW , THE UNIQUE EXTREM RELIGIOUS PARTY IN SRI LANKA IS THE JHU !
AND IT'S TIME TO KICK THEM OUT OF THE POLITICAL SCENE, OR THERE WILL BE NEVER A UNITED LANKA...

Thanks, it's your choice to accept the facts ...

JHU is not a product of Buddhism or Buddhist monks, It is a by-product of SLFP and UNP.
If you examine how JHU came into being you will understand the reality. The failure of SLFP and UNP politicians to progress the country is the main reason to form JHU.

Christian fathers and Muslims imams are more towards the religion and not thinking of the country as a whole. Rather the religion is more important to them than the country.

Buddhist monks took one step further and thinking of the country and the future generations then formed the JHU.

The difference between Buddhist monks and other religious preachers is buddhist monks think of the country whereas others think only of their respective religion.

so can you judge who is more religious fanatics? Buddhist monks? Christian Fathers? or Muslim Imams?

How come HJU got equal votes as TNA during last elections??
Nearly 600000 votes altogehter..

In the Colombo District, constituencies such as Maharagama and Kesbewa, it polled second, beating UNP!!!

IF JHU is insignificant, so is LTTE backed TNA.

Cheers

Buddhists have to learn a lot from the world, look around and see what is happening and see how other religious fanatics are bahaving.

Otherwise we will be always defensive and take the blame to ourselves when these idiots try to attack us. We think we are wrong but infact we are not

Buddhism has become the common enemy, enemy of everybody.

Even the new pope has publicly said the biggest threst for the vatican is the buddhism.

If not it is not

The sad story is that most Sinhala does not want to call themselves Sinhalese.

Dumindak,

i do not agree with you.

You said Buddhism has become ennemy for everybody, are you underestimating your great religion ?

I do not support your view about that. Buddhism is viewed by many as a great religion, it's why we cannot say that it become the ennemy for many persons.. Please do not twist the facts.

It's true that some extremist and religious parties like the Talibans have not respect for Buddhist's statue...

Never has the pope, especially Late John Paul 2nd ever stated that Buddhism is the single threat to Christianity. If he ever was such a fervent critic of Buddhism you would not have seen so many representatives of the Buddhist clergy at his funeral.

There is no necessity why religion should have any place, position or superiority in any constitution of any country. Most countries that actually have such clauses giving foremost places to specefic religions are countries that are mostly messed up in their own political turmoils. Religion belongs to the conscious of the individual and not the state. Once the state gets involved in religion, the state manipulates religion to suit its own needs. This is exactly what has happened in Sri Lanka and continues to happen in countries where there is state regulation of religion.

In hope of a secular, free and peaceful Sri Lanka.
