Chandrika`s vote for Ranil to prevent war - Attanayake
Friday, 9 September 2005 - 2:43 AM SL Time

The UNP yesterday predicted that President Chandrika Kumaratunga would cast her vote in favour of Ranil Wickremesinghe ,at the forthcoming presidential election, because she does not want the country to go back to war.

Kandy district UNP parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake told a news conference that going by Kumaratunga`s statements on the peace process and praise heaped on Wickremesinghe at the SLFP`s 54 the anniversary celebrations on Tuesday, they were in no doubt as to how Kumaratunga would vote.

Kumaratunga, praised Wickremesinghe for his efforts in securing a ceasefire agreement with the LTTE saying that the country had gained economically as a result.

Attanayake, said that the only reason Kumaratunga had not objected to the Mahinda -JVP alliance was because she did not want to be accused of causing his defeat.

`The President has worked with the JVP and knows that it is impossible to develop the country with a war mongering party full of novices who do not understand the basics of governance and economics,` he said

The UNP, he said, will never allow the country to be divided and it was with this objective that Mr.Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister entered into a ceasefire agreement with the LTTE, that has come in for praise even at this late stage by President Kumaratunga.

`It must be remembered that the solution to the ethnic issue is political. If we go down the JVP and JHU road we will get isolated internationally and it would be detrimental to the development of the country`, he said.

As Muchalinda told yesterday best thing that CBK can do is to stay away from the Presidential campaign...and if she is going to suppot P.ranil...its the ideal mix for the victory of the Mahinda R...coz all the Sri Lankans hate this lady...

means that all the curse that hit Sri Lanka during the past decades are on one side(P Ranil and the gang) and the potential future strategists(Mahinda R and the patriots) are on the other side...

nice lady...very nice...this may be the best decision that you have taken since you became the president...

This means that majority singalese would vote for Ranil. Minority Tamils & Muslims are hoping that Singalese would make a big difference this time to end the war for ever. If we end the war, 10 years from now, Sri-Lanka would be a shining star in South Asia.

I am pretty sure, CBK will double cross MR, and then it would not be the first time.

When would somebody explain some geniuses here that one single vote does not matter, but what really matters is the policy shift from chandrika supporting the other guy rather than her own clown..

Mahinda will very soon realize 'WHEN you sleep with Dogs, You wake up with Fleas'!! :)

This aligning of parties will EXCELLENT news for Srilanka and the UNP. Its a sad day for the SLFP cos either way you look at it - is death for them.

1. If Ranil wins the PA will be routed at the General election to follow.

2. If Mahinda wins he will be pused around by the JVP, like a PIN GONA, he always was.

CBK realized the need for the president of SL to represent the entire nation and not just one group. SO alot of moderate singala people voted for the PA.

THe JVP vote was NEVER going to go to Ranil. So ranil doesnt really loose anythng. However, it will be interesting to see how many votes come ranils way, becaue of this hardline attitude Mahinda has adopted...

I, as millions of peace loving SRI LANKANS, do not mind who wins the PE, so long as a new era dawns in Sri Lanka.
What SL wants at this crucial time is a strong government to take the country forward.
SL needs intelligent legislators who will take care of all races without any discrimination whatsoever.
At the same time the new President should not kneel down in front of terrorists.
Anybody can make any sort of demand like the wanni tigers. If they do not come through democratic channels, these demands should end in garbage bins. The day will come very soon when the terrorists have to embrace peaceful means if they want to present legitimate demands.
May a new Sri Lanka come to life with a strong, just President to rule the ENTIRE COUNTRY WITH ALL RACES.

Initially i really didn't see who has made this statement...it was the joker who challenged JVP to contest alone...just to prevent the storng coalition of the patriots...who would care for these 'bolanda' statements by raving idiots...

BTW ...now the UNP is full of jokers...i think once these idiots are defeated they should change their career paths...from politics to acting...they could have a certain bright future ahead of them...

Chao...
