Tigeress,
It is not good that LTTE decides what is good for people and enforce it by force.
If LTTE thinks theirs is the best solution for the tamil people in Sri Lanka, they should present it to the people for the evaluation. They should also let competing ideas to be presented to the people and let the people choose what is best for them.
Instead of doing this, Prabhakaran dicides what is good for all tamils using his limited experience and moral standards and values and enforce it by force.
Blind hero worshipping is a 20th century addition to tamil culture and to some extent there is no harm in it. However serious problems like ethnic war and loosing lives in sri lanka shouldn't be held hostage to twisted mind of an individual who is trapped in playing folklore hero.
You and I deserve more than that. |

Tigeress,
If LTTE is confident about its popularity, why doesn't it let the people be presented with the alternative views?
By all account, Taliban was popular with a section of Afghan people. But it doesn't stop afghan being carpet bombed by american air force.
If you look at it, Taliban and LTTE has many thing in common. I only hope that, unlike Taliban, LTTE will not take Tamil people along with when it go down.

He added the government signed the ceasefire agreement with the LTTE, because of the military strength of the LTTE.
To sustain the current peace environment and to establish permanent peace, the military strength of the LTTE and the Tamil people should be protected and enhanced, he added. Hence the induction of newly trained personnel of the village level special trained force.

EU has decided not to take any action against LTTE. It is left to individual member countries to do whatever it wants. EU urges LTTE to attend peace talk with GoSL.
We all know what UK, one of the 25 members of UK did already. |

The primary reason why EU doesn't want to ban LTTE is that an EU member is currently mediating the peace talks and with a EU ban it will be difficult for Norway to continue the mediation. EU concluded that this will upset the current ceasefire agreements and will distroy whatever chance a permanent settlement may have.
But it knows the fundamental realties of LTTE and left the decision to member countries.
It is also aimed at taming the Sinhalese extremists who are busy mobilizing sinhalese public opinion against the peace efforts.
It is a warning to both extremists. There cannot be another reading of the situation.
LTTE needs to change or go. |
