Sudaroli journalists assaulted at a bus station
Tuesday, 30 August 2005 - 11:35 PM SL Time

Two journalists working for a Tamil language newspaper have been assaulted in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.
Parliamentary reporters of Sudaroli Tamil newspaper were assaulted when they were waiting for a bus after covering a parliamentary session.

Puththirasigamani was seriously injured while Arumugam Varatharajah received minor injuries, a member of the Sudaroli editorial told bbcsinhala.com website.

The motivation of the attackers, who have fled after the incident, is unknown.

However, the spokesman said it was clear the journalists were assaulted due to their journalistic work.

Sudaroli newspaper, he said, came under four attacks during recent weeks.

'First, a grenade was thrown at our office. Then our reporter who went to cover a JVP rally was assaulted. Third one was yesterday's bomb attacks,' the spokesman told BBC Sandeshaya.

Meanwhile, Media workers have strongly condemned recent attacks on the newspaper.

Working Journalists Association of Sri Lanka (WJASL) has expressed concern that the authorities are yet to find suspects of the earlier attacks on Sudaroli.

'It is unfortunate that the relevant authorities could not provide an adequate security to the Sudaroli newspaper institution, while it was obvious to everybody that the said institution was facing a greater security threat,' the statement added.

It urged the authorities to act immediately to bring an end to violence against media and civil society.

This is another ploy to implicate the JVP by the interested parties like LTTE and UNP who are angry that JVP is to support Mahinda Rajapakse?

Ltte barbarians in Colombo have successfully staged another 'theater-piece' to put the blame on the Police or the Armed Forces!
Before the Elections many more 'attacks' against 'innocent' Tamils may take part throughout the country by the VBT agents to create a difficult atmosphere
for the peaceful conduct of elections.
Be vigilant!

So LTTE has opted to different tactics to implicate the GOSL and SLA.
The best thing for the GOSL is to re-inforce PTA and all restrictions if not there will be a chaos before long and blood sheds by the Wanni butchers.

The real 'living tigers' in the jungle can not change their stripes.
But these wanni barbarian, baby frying, cannibal, avathaar's, cyanide eating 'tigers' often change their killing methods to put the blame on others.
They have not done any killings or massacres. They want to show the world that they are innocent underprivileged, oppressed class....
This is another such case....

Did not all who are protecting the JVP see very clearly through the print media wnen one of the journilist of Sudaroli was covering the JVP rally few days ago he was apprehented and was assualted very badly. Did you not clearly witnes the ruthlesness of the JVP to assault a single person with the help of many of their members.

Can anybody call this as an act of the UNP or the LTTE ???
The mentaly constipated JVP has nothing to offer to this country. They are only a bunch of comediens who can fool the poor rural classes. What is their vision to the country. Their only vision is to sagotage the good work OF any government. Be it the UNP OR THE SLFP.

Please don't get carried away with the foolish unproductive propaganda of the JVP.

If I were to refresh the minds of many in this forum, I see the JVP far worse than any body else. The 1988-1989 era reminds me of the barbarism of the JVP. This is not far away, just 17 years ago. Burning public property, strikes in schools and the worse when they went on to kill the parents of the security forces.

Anyway, we are so lucky that this bunch has accepthed the democratic path but do not forget these people still inherit the destructive path.

This is not LTTE propaganda, this is called 'constructive critisism' Please prove me wrong. We should admit the barbarism of the JVP and the LTTE on the same platform. Not only the barbarism of the LTTE and not the JVP since it is in the south.....

KUMA you are right the JVP does not do cheap things they do expensive things like setting fire to tea factories, buses, electrical plants, kill professionals like Thevis Guruge, innocent people like Glady's Jayawardene.Even after pretending to tread the democratic path sabotage the efforts of the Government with strikes, prevent the university students from achieving their academic goals. All these are not cheap things, there is a price for which future generations will have to pay.
