RATNAPURA ? Sabaragamuwa Additional Director of Education (Tamil) I. Pandurenganathan speaking at a seminar held at Dehiowita Tamil Maha Vidyalayam on August 5 said that the G.C.E. O/L results in the Tamil schools had declined alarmingly. `Instead of pointing fingers at the principals and teachers for the deterioration, we should find out the causes and attempt to remedy all shortcomings. Seminars of this nature with outside assistance will be useful,` he said.
The seminar was organised by the Plantation Education and Cultural Development Association in collaboration with the Indian High Commission.
A. K. M. Pillai, President of the Association presided.
Continuing Mr. Panurenganathan said that the purpose of holding the seminar was to increase the knowledge of students in Maths, Science, Tamil language and English and secure good results in the O/L examination.
The complaint that the teachers were not dedicated and shortgage of teachers could not be the only reason since past results had been good, he said.
`In Sabaragamuwa there are 160 Tamil schools and 35 Muslim schools. O/L classes are conducted in 25 Tamil schools and 15 Muslim schools. A/L classes are conducted in 21 schools. We need 2354 teachers but we have only 1629. There is a shortage of 720 Tamil teachers and 100 Muslim teachers. But we will be getting only 388 new teachers including 80 graduate teachers. Only 62 per cent of our requirements are met and there is a shortage of about 30 per cent of teachers. However, if the principals and teachers put in a dedicated and joint attempt we will be able to secure good results in the future,` Mr. Pandurenganathan said.
Principal of Dehiowita Tamil Maha Vidyalaya M. Udayakumar welcomed the guests. Several University lecturers also addressed the seminar.

First the British gave them a free ride by granting over-the-counter qualifications and now the reality has set in. This is what Prabha has done for young Tamils, making them become perfect killers! With this new qualifications why do they need any education?
The Eelamist propaganda scream that they are the master race in Sri Lanka and that the Sinhalese were destroying them. Did we? Prabha really exposed how intelligent the Tamils are - you got NO BRAINS, if they did they wouldn't spend time devising methods to kill people and celebrate afterwards. |

The tiger barbarians will definitely say that the GOSL is doing it purposely and will point the fingers at the SLA presence around schools & other institutions in Trincomalee!!
But the truth is that the VBTs are directing through their ideologists that obtaining school certificates has no meaning to wage war against the GOSL, to establish the 'dream eelamland'.
Innocent Tamil students have fallen into this prey & neglect their studies.
Are there any Tamil intellectuals to explain this point to the students??? |

School children are busy with protest campaigns for the beneifit of LTTE.
LTTE is kidnapping school children. Army is standing guard around the school. LTTE push school chidren to go on strike (TRINCOMALEE).
Their performance go down.
Expatriate tamils, talk loud becuase everything is fine for them.
EVERY THING IS SINHALA PEOPLE, GOSL AND SLA'S FAULT. BECAUSE GOSL DOES NOT PROVIDE everthing including EELAM while they go on destruction and character asassiantion of a country and people. |

IF those who are really impartial and reasonable people tamils were favoured the way tamils were university admissions were carried out. Evidence is university admission statistics to different faculties.
Besides school teachers helped tamil students in A/L, so they got better marks. In the university also, some professors gave question papers, so tamil students could earn classes. University handled that particular situation secretly and never thought of correcting it once for all.
Sinhala students never complained even though they knew the injustce. Because it will be to a deaf ear. |

| I think the problem here is the Teachers are not well trained . It is not a problem with the kids. Successive governments have been manipulative giving teaching appointments and probably the teachers are not getting good training. |

| Discrimination what else. This is absolute discrimination. Sabaragamuwa is prominently Sinkala area. No teachers for Tamil. I know many teachers for Sinkala girls boys. No good. |

As for me , many of these children goes to school with empty stomach. They can't concentrate in their studies.
their teachers are not so trained, and they don't serve to their student with whole heartedly. The present situation in sl is the main reason for this poor result. |

| Good reply peace4us. People like Vishnu are biased towards one end. No sinhala teachers are allowed in NE. But Ratnapura Tamil teachers are free to do their duty. In fact qualified well trained teachers are gradually declining. Government should pay attention to these. There are many University graduates un employed yet. Why can not government train them as teachers?? |

Peace4us, you r right.
LTTE pandits in foreign countries whose chidren are given a good education(thanks to GOSL for those expatriates receiving a free education in SL to get a good paying job in a foreign country and who disrespects SL)promotes violence among Tamil students by supporting LTTE openly by word and ransoms are happy that these Tamil students standard of education is deteorating so that the students will join the LTTE forces to fight on behalf of the pandits.
But very little they realise that the day these children turn back on them realising the LTTE's foley, another split like KARUNA's is inevitable and LTTErswill have to run for shelter-ASK FOR GOSL SECURITY!
That day is not very far!
KARMA! |
