Dear KURAL:

Sorry Mister. I am not much into Astronomy or Astro-Physics and this is NOT the time and place to discuss that either.

-Muchalinda

PS: I believe you are not someone looking at the Finger when pointed to the Moon.

PS2: All the Knowledges including the shape of the Earth and the Universe to Tsunami to Eelam to Little Brains to Mahavansan are just models we deivsed to better explain (Not always, though) our observations. This is the subject generally identified as Knowledge about Knowledge (or Gnana Vibagaya, in Sinhala). If you want I can discuss the Knowledge about Knowledge, not necessarily a specific model as the shape of the Universe. If you cannot understand this (I mean if you have not read anything in this area), please forget about that.

my question is how can we keep this kind of people in our neighbourhood or treat them as our fellow countrymen?

That is why there are things called Police and Prisons. See how nice our fellow countryman Sumanasiri Banda (Dissanayake) live in a prison like an obedient kitten.

However, the bottom line is we should live with Tamils and if we are ever going to live with a single other race, it should be Tamils. The whole problem here is getting rid of the people who use innocent Tamils to supress the other Non-Christian cultures.

Never try to judge Tamils by looking at whom you see around you or by reading posts in this forum. What you see is an excited state of Tamils. They are not allowed to go against this main stream Eelamists ideology. Do not expect an independent unbiased opinion from an ordinary Tamil at this moment of the Time.

Muchalinda,

I was flabbergasted to read your last post that was addressed to me; you have manifested a contemptuous attitude. I raised a very serious point that I believe is the root cause of the turmoil in Sri Lanka; you have ridiculed it as it were a joke.

So, because of the GG, Valupilli, and Chelvanayagam, the Sinhala society took revenge on the Tamils. The actions and the policies adopted by the successive Sri Lankan governments proved beyond doubt that, what the Tamil leaders suspected were correct.

You are not addressing the fundamental issue that is inclusiveness; you and your ilk have alienated the minorities. The recent CBK?s address goes to the heart of the matter; she spoke about inclusive society, and a federal structure; this is exactly what Chelvanayagam was arguing. It had to take 65,000 lives on both sides for a lame duck president to state it publicly. However, it looks as if it is going to take another 65,000 lives to implement it.

You said I quote: ?As you said, I tapped my 'educated' brain and asked myself why ARIYALAI_SB's cousin born and bred in Singapore proudly claims herself as a Singaporean (Not as a Tamil). I also asked why Ariyalai_SB's tour guide who is a Malaysian Born Indian proudly identify himself as a Malaysian (Not necessarily a Tamil)?

I have always advocated a Sri Lankan identity; here, you have shown as to what sort of a hypocrite you are indeed. You want to glorify Sinhala Buddhism and the Sinhala Buddhists to own Sri Lanka, then you want to say to the others; hey, you are a Sri Lankan, don?t think that you are a Tamil or Muslim; what a joke! Your idea of an inclusive society is very different to mine.

The bottom line is that both Singapore and Malaysia have got it right, and Sri Lanka got it miserably wrong, thanks to you and your ilk. Please do not blame anyone else but Sinhala Buddhist fundamentalism. The main Sinhala polity understands this perfectly, but they need to deal with it head on; if they fail, Sri Lanka is doomed.

Dumindak,

Do you, or do you not accept that there is a well established phenomenon called Sinhala Buddhism fundamentalism in Sri Lanka? Before I go any further, I need to know the answer, as whatever I say will fall in deaf ears otherwise.

I am not that much religious person to explain you perfectly, but we have a currupted society now because there is no buddhist fundamatalism in sri lanka.

Fundamantal buddhism is a hardcore buddhism practised by monks in remote jungles same like some Hindu priests in Himalaya. Present day buddhists or monks dont practise this. One thing I can tell you is more you practise the fundamatal buddhism you become more harmless because you learn to love people.

so let me have your answer for my question that who is a traitor and who is a patriotic in the eyes of a Tamil.

I have another question for you. If you find a Tamil who really loves Sri Lanka (same like my friend in Colombo) how you treat him? will you condemn him? insult him? laugh at him? or praise him?

Dumindak,

You come across as an intelligent person yet appear ignorant to the true realities that are prevailing in Sri Lanka.

I can see that you are a true Buddhist, and want to promote harmony, and also want all communities to live together; I do not doubt your intention at all. I was born and bred in a Hindu family in Jaffna, but I chose not to follow any religion, as I am perfectly capable of knowing as to what is right, and what is wrong without the aid of any religion.

That said; I think that you are not doing any justice to your intellect by not identifying the root cause of the problems in Sri Lanka. You see, Sri Lanka gained independence back in 1948, ever since the country has been going backwards not forward; the Sinhala polity in conjunction with the Sinhala Buddhist fundamentalists have alienated all the minorities, and eventually the Tamils in particular have been radicalised. This is the reality; you must understand this; if you brush it under the carpet, or explain with some sort anecdotal story, it will never go away. The Sinhala polity must deal with the monster that it helped to create. On the same token, I like to point out that the Tamil nationalism is not rooted to any religious ideology, as such it will sort itself out once Sri Lanka move towards a secular and plural state promoting inclusiveness.

Quote: ?who is a traitor and who is a patriotic in the eyes of a Tamil.?

I must first tell you about how I feel: I feel that I am as a Tamil who was born and bred in Sri Lanka have as much rights as you have, and call Sri Lanka is my country. However, this sense of feeling and belonging has been called into question as a direct result of the policies and actions adopted by my own country that were detrimental to the Tamils in Particular; nevertheless, my feeling towards my identity as a Sri Lankan remains intact.

That said, many Tamils have been completely alienated, and feel that any Tamil who acts against their interest is a traitor in their eyes. Exactly the same can be said about the Sinhalese who point out the injustices to the Tamils, are being branded by the Sinhala hardliners as traitors.

Many Tamils feel that they are patriotic towards Eelam; it is so because they have been excluded by the main polity and the open racism practiced by many Sinhala parliamentarians over the years. I can point out many incidents that would have galvanised and consolidated the Tamil sentiments. You cannot discount this by simply saying that you have many Tamil friends who are good Sri Lankans. Vast majority of the Tamils in the North and East can only speak one language that is Tamil, and have no access to any other mediums like you and I have.

Quote: ?I have another question for you. If you find a Tamil who really loves Sri Lanka (same like my friend in Colombo) how you treat him? will you condemn him? insult him? laugh at him? or praise him??

I know many Tamils who love Sri Lanka; in fact many of my family and friends do; we are not confused by our identity, but have been put into a difficult situation as a result of the majority community trying to enforce their hegemony on us. I want more and more Tamils to feel that they are also Sri Lankans; however, it will not happen until we find a viable solution to the national question; this would mean dealing with the Sinhala Buddhist fundamentalism and pacifying the LTTE. No, I will not condemn nor insult nor laugh at your Tamil friends. I have many Sinhala friends too.

If you have time, please read the following book; it will enlighten you about the phenomenon that I have made reference to several times:

?Buddhist Fundamentalism and Minority Identities in Sri Lanka?

ARIYALAI_SB:

You are very correct when identifying my previous post as sarcastic. I generally use sarcasm just to add some humour, especially when I am tired of repeating the same thing AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. Why cannot I repeat those one more time for my good friend ARIYALAI_SB.

Quote:
The actions and the policies adopted by the successive Sri Lankan governments proved beyond doubt that, what the Tamil leaders suspected were correct.

This is again correct. Elite Tamil leaders suspected Sinhalese getting more power and control over the country if Universal Suffrage is implemented and it in deed happened. They suspected about them loosing the previlleges they enjoyed under the British and it also happened. They worried about a language that was spoken by the majority of the country and was understood by the majority of the second biggest minority becoming the official language and it in deed happened. So, it is clear, those Elite Tamil leaders are very correct with their suspecions.

About Glorifying Sinhala Buddhism:

If you want, you may recognise wht I did as GLORIFYING Sinhala Buddhism. But I have never done what ever the act I did on false evidence or Myths.

Quote:
then you want to say to the others; hey, you are a Sri Lankan, don?t think that you are a Tamil or Muslim; what a joke!

ARIYALAI_SB, Would you mind providing any statement(s) of mine or any other logic I put forward to prove what you say. As far as I believe I have never advocated anyone to loose their Racial (or National) Identity (and I believe I am not suffering from Alzheimers Deseas). You may take this as CHALLENGE.

-Muchalinda

PS: I appreciate you for promoting the Sri Lankan Identity. But never abandon your Tamil Hindu Identity. Our country needs more Srachchandras, Laxman Kadiragamars, Senarath Paranawithanas, Jackson Anthonys, Muttiah Muralidarans and Mohideen Begs.
