Dear Mr. SamVadan,
Shall we stop talking about our parents. I do not want to put you in TROUBLE by asking whether you are proud of your mum (If Yes, you too become a Mama's Boy, If your answer is No, we all will feel sorry about you). Believe me... I do not want an answer for this.

I am a past pupi of CIS and i am shocked with all things written about my school.
My parents sacrificied so much to put me in what they considered ( as do i) the best english medium school in sri lanka. We never had much money - with the money my sister and i receving for our birthdays going towards the electricity bill when things were tight! You may ask why the english medium? Because my parents wanted me to study in an enviroment where Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims mixed together in harmony.
I also want to make clear - i have NEVER stepped into a club or bar in sri lanka - and i have been in CIS for 11 years. I know alot of friends from CIS who are the same.
You say that students from CIS have no culture and religion. That too is rubbish. I am a practising muslim who wears the hijaab and i am very attachted to my sri lankan culture. At the moment i am studying in the West and even there i am very proud to say i have stuck to my cultural and religious idenity.
Please do not just assume things about all of us in CIS. It is just not fair.
Someone asked 'Has this school produced any national level athlete who brought glory to Sri Lanka or outstanding scholer, scientist or any outstanding social worker in Sri lanka or abroad'
Two students from CIS radeesha dalluwata and natasha kodikuwatku were brilliant national swimmers who went onto take part in the Olympics.
Many Students from CIS have won World awards,a girl from our class got the worlds best computer result for London A levels. Another guy juniour to us got the WORLDS best London O level results.
Not trying to boast here,im sure students from others schools have achieved far more, just added that bit in as an answer to that particular rude question. |

I think members of this forum are wasting their time trying to judge a society by this unfortunate incident. I am astonished to read that the simple fact can not be understood by many that this girl died not because she was club hopping but there was a man who was mentally deranged that murdered her. Why? what the circumstances were? and how? yet to be found out . A crime had been committed and it is the culprit which deserves the punishment. One can blame the society if this is an every day event.
Mr. SWRD Bandaranayake was assassinated by a Buddhist monk, do we blame Buddhism?
A Buddhist monk rapes a teenage girl do we blame entire priesthood?
Sexual abuse of boys by some catholic priests, do we blame Catholicism and Jesus?
LTTE under the direct orders of Schizophrenic Prabhakaran brutally massacre Singhalese and Muslim villages ,should we prosecute every Tamil? |

Hi Observer2,
I should appreciate you for having pride about your school and saving your school name form the people who are trying to insult the International Schools.
Hats Off for your effort. Did you wear an attire which is suitable for Muslim Girl, when you were schooling at CIS ( Just Curious ang want to know ). |

MAGHA,
Just a small correction to what you wrote. Few people here (including myself) did not try to judge the society by this incident, but the vise versa. We tried to judge this incident in the societal context that surrounded it. And I still stand by what I said.
About the CIS debate:
I saw few questions directed to me about the CIS debate. I deliberately did not answer those because of a reason.
I studied at one of the best government schools in Sri Lanka, the very school where our friend Kumara (the original one, not kumara2005 or Kumara-lanka) studied. Some may even consider studying in such a school as a privilege and I respect my school a lot. However, the fact is I do not have any faith on the Sri Lankan education system, whether it is Poramadulla MMV or CIS. Therefore, I thought it is better to be silent.
What produce by all these schools are parrots, nothing but parrots (including myself). We cannot become the masters of the science but just the followers of that.

Mucha-Linda,
Come on man...open up your eyes ...it may be true that up to our A/L s it is not up to the mark...but when it come to our A/L s it is very much superior than even many of the degree programmes around the world(i m talking about the science subjects, specially mathematics/ oc s i don't know about others)...about one year back when i went through a crash courses at one of the world's most prestigious uni's ...it clearly gave me a chance to witness our capabilities (of course build through our A/Ls) against other others countries...cos many were at a such a low level when it comes to numbers...
so buddy never underestimate our education system...

The question I asked was not a rude question as you have mentioned in the reply. It is a general question which comes to anybodys mind.
If you look at a brocher from any university or school there is a section devoted to outstanding people produced by that institution.
you know how universities are graded? this particular question is one of many questions they ask in the grading process.
The question is not rude, but your attitude is rude, simply you dont want somebody ask questions from you. In that case you should not be part of a discussion.
I never wanted to discuss the quality of a school because personlly I think all schools in Sri Lanka are garbage and degrading education without knowing the main objective.simply I asked this because I used to ask from many people |
