A plot to abduct the first accused, in the High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya murder case, Mohammed Naufer alias Potta Naufer had been uncovered by Welikada Prison officials, prisons sources said yesterday (4)
Tight security was provided to the remand prison ward where Naufer was held and he was taken to the High Court with special security yesterday, when the verdict of the Ambepitiya case was to be given, sources added.
The remand prison ward, where Naufer is held, was given extremely high security as there were some prison guards and officers who are known to have had dealings with him and the ward where he is held has been ordered a no entry area for all prison staff except those specially assigned to the ward, sources added.
All police stations in the Colombo city were alerted before Naufer was taken to the High Court yesterday as a rival underworld gang is known to have planned to kill him yesterday while he was being taken to the court, sources said.
