Asgiriya Mahanayake supports P-TOMS

The Mahanayake of Asgiriya Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakitta Thera yesterday told President Chandrika Kumaratunga that she should go ahead with the P-TOMS agreement even though it was too late. The prelate who blessed the President also told her he believed there was no threat to the sovereignty of Sri Lanka in the agreement.
The President met the Mahanayake at the Sri Dalada Maligawa to brief him, as promised at the Janadipathi Mandiraya some weeks ago that the steps taking by the President would be intimated to the theras. The President told the Mahanayake of Asgiriya that the document would be tabled in Parliament as an adjournment motion today.
As the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter was away at Kahawatte and was returning only yesterday, Central Province Governor Monty Gopallawa was entrusted with the task of delivering a letter from the President to the prelate.
Later the President who wished to pay homage to the Tooth Relic was told that at that time the doors of the inner shrine were closed. The President then said she was willing to pay homage from outside and did so at the exposition mandapaya.
The secretary of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Prof. Warakawe Dhammaloka Thera, Finance Minister Sarath Amunugama and Central Province Governor Monty Gopallawa were also present.

| As a Budhist I do not wish to insult a Budhist clergy.But with reluctance I have to mention this.Unlike the other ordinary monks, these Mahanayakes do not express the concers about ordinary people as they live in conforts and travel in LIMOS like BENZ.So what greatness in there in their supporting the JM as its like another NGO who are eager for MONEY supporting the JM.I wonder whether another BENZ is on its way to ASGIRIYA???? |

| These Mahanayake's support is in noway a signal that the majority of the Sri Lankans are for JM.Because they live far aprt from the general public.They entertain only the VVIPs.They accept DANAs only from the RICHER class, and I heard that a temple in Washington too entertain only the EMBASSY people and the RICHER class.They are not the real budhists.They do not care what happens to Sri Lanka or any as long as their comforts are safe guarded.Shameless monks. |

I am happy that Mahanayake of Asgiriya Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakitta Thera, has given the President his in principle approval for the Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure. It is now the duty of the President to ensure that the Administrative principles of the Operations are clearly spelt out with least discretionary powers especially except at the highest level. Truth needs to be the driver where there is no clearly stated common principle. Above the common Administrative Guidelines, the Truth commonly recognized by the two sides needs to be upheld by the side in power. This is where the Buddhist clergy can play a role internally and Tamil elders can play a role internationally.
Young ones participating in Public discussions must do so AFTER they submit their Administrative recommendations as per their current line of work. The rest is for personal enjoyment only.

I am sorry what you heard about the Washington Temple. I am one of the regular members who visits the temple every other month. I can tell responsibly, there is no such thing. The temple is open for all the buddhists, not only Sri Lankans, but Bangladeshi, burmese etc.
It's true that the majority of the Washington area are embassy people. But there are others around too, besides that the majority living around Washington DC is somewhat 'rich'. Those who attend the temple are rich in both wealth and the spirit.
Whare ever you got the information is not true, I personally know it's not true.
But I agree most of the monks do not open their mouths because they fear that they will lose the luxuaries they get.
Can you remember Maduluwawe Sobhitha thera got into streats and made a big drama about the 'package' What happened to him after that ? Is he in Sri Lanka ??? or has UNP shut his mouth ???

This is what I posted some times back. It was referring to Malwatte Mahanayake Thero. Now I can extended it to the Asiriya Mahanayake Thero too.
?I find the present Most Venerable Mahanayake Thero seems to be more comprehensible about the Sinhala Buddhist Chauvinism and other religious fundamentalisms than some of these so called English educated intellectuals. That may be the very reason he is trying to find some peaceful solution to the ethnic problem by participating in inter religion discussions?.

I would say all clergymen have common touch of the people. Problem is most of the time they prefer wealth to commonness. Embassy people are not the richest Sri Lankan in Washington. I know it very well.
JM is for the people who are affected by the Tsunami very badly on top of the misery they had due to war which has been caused by the discriminatory policies adopted by the Sinhala majority. Mahanyake Theros very well understand the plight of those people and have the feeling about the mass. Ven Theros are not opportunistic to get appreciated by the ill informed Sinhala majority or agitated by JVP/JHU threats and have shown their resilience.
These Mahanyake Theros have a history of involvement in the social struggle not for their benefit but for the people. They have guts to stand against JHU type monks whose principal is the hatred or the hooliganism not the ?Mathri? .
This is the leadership. Not to play for the gallery. I salute for their courage. |

JVP and JHU principaly disagree with p tom or ISGA or MOu or CFA or Pakage or Provincial council or rata sabha or what ever it is.So this in not a thing to be panic its like houseold Dog barks at night.It barrs and after some time it sleeps . it barks as it wants to show its alive similerly like JVP. I have never seen Such crroks JVPer in that sense JHU is better. When Omalpe Sobitha conduct fast un to death Lanka truth had spread all rumors saying its bogus. when Dambara Amila fasting then its the ideal fast according to LAnka truth and when Dambara Amila stop asting then it forcefull eveiction. and then nobody talk about that he didnt continued as they challenege JHU only patriots do fast unto death . for Same reason both JHU and JVP did fast unto death but JVP acuse its only they do the real thing its simply to grab the platfiorm nothing genuin. when indo lanka accord signed how many buses burn how many building burnt buy JVP and people instigated by JVP whats happen isnt it functioned smoothly isnt it represented by JVP this is hypocrasy this is nothing but some thing similar what they did in 1987 agains provincial councils.Those who were killed by JVP simply for vote at provincial copuncils in 1988 who are going to responsible for their families they were killed for nothing
this is JVP history always its like that. JVP protest against Chandrika brings pakage but later they went for coalition with Chandriak simply for power gains. MAduluwawe sobitha or any mahanayaka or in the histroy many monks weremislead by un known politics fauiliuer to understand minority question and political problems. |
