NEW DELHI, May 25: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa`s security has been further tightened in the wake of Indian intelligence reports that an LTTE woman suicide-bomber may be stalking her.
Reports reaching here from Chennai say that security around the state secretariat was beefed up on Tuesday. The cordon around the 57-year-old Ms Jayalalithaa has also been reinforced.
Thirty more police personnel were deployed around the secretariat, where her office is located. On Kamarajar Salai, the extra personnel are watching every movement with eagle eyes. Plainclothes personnel are questioning anyone arousing suspicion on the entire route the spinster chief minister takes from her fortress-like residence to the secretariat daily.
Everyone entering the secretariat is being questioned and frisked. Every vehicle entering the secretariat is checked.
The situation is a throwback to the 1990s, when Ms Jayalalithaa was on the LTTE hit-list, following a crack-down on the Sri Lankan separatist militant outfit, banned after the LTTE`s woman suicide-bomber Dhanu assassinated former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at an election rally at Sriperumbudur near Chennai on May 21, 1991.
