Two persons, a man and a woman, among a group of Vesak sightseers, fell into the Kelani River from the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship bridge, Grandpass on Monday (24) night, resulting in the drowning of one.
The woman, was identified as Karunawathie (65), a resident of Bulthsinghala, was drowned and her body had not been recovered upto yesterday evening. The man had swam to safety.
The group had been attempting to cross the bridge through an opening in the cowling, to get to their vehicle, during a Vesak sight seeing tour, when the tragedy occured.
