Cold war between Kadir and Jayantha says Kiriella
Monday, 7 March 2005 - 2:38 AM SL Time

Kandy district parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said the main reason for the government`s failure to move ahead in the peace process was the tug-of-war between Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and the Secretary General of Peace Secretariat, Jayantha Danapala. `There is a cold war between them. Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar does not like any one else interfering in the peace process,` he said and added that the government had to solve internal problems at the expense of more serious problems in the country. Mr. Kiriella made this statement at a special media discussion held at Devon Hotel in Kandy.

Speaking further he said he had his doubts regarding the way tsunami aid had gone the wrong way. `Double-tongued statements are being made by the government. Earlier it was stated that foreign aid flowed in quantities more than required and now they say that aid did not come as expected,` he said.

Meanwhile, Kandy district parliamentarian and the Chairman of Kandy district UNP organisation Keheliya Rambukwella accused the JVP of creating political confusion in the country. `Nothing said by JVPers can be believed. They cannot be trusted. They only bring pressure and hardships on the people,` he said and compared the government to a kite flying in the air broken away from its thread. He said the President was now free from LTTE threat due to the peace programme initiated by opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and added that his party was ready to face any challenge and move towards victory.
