Tigers on eight-nation tour : First since UN threatened travel restrictions over child conscription

The EU is likely to take up a gamut of touchy issues, including the conscription of child soldiers and acquisition of an air capability (by the LTTE), when Tiger political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan meets the EU's External Affairs Commissioner Ms Benita Ferrero-Waldner, at the EU headquarters in Brussels, during his forthcoming European tour.
The Thamilselvan-led 12-member delegation, that left the BIA Thursday morning, is scheduled to visit Oslo where it would have a series of consultations before meeting Ms. Ferrero-Waldner.
Five of the delegates, including Thamilselvan, had been brought to Katunayake in a light twin engine Y 12 fixed wing aircraft from the Vavuniya air base and the rest had come overland on Wednesday. They had stayed overnight at the Airport Garden Hotel and had left for BIA under protection Thursday morning.
Although Ms. Ferrero-Waldner, who was here on a two-day visit, agreed to take up these issues consequent to a government request, at a meeting with the LTTE leadership Tuesday, the LTTE had cancelled the scheduled meeting at the eleventh hour. Speculation is rife that the LTTE did not want to be embarrassed, particularly hot on the heels of the recent damaging UNICEF report on child conscription. The LTTE had disputed the report.
The delegation is scheduled to visit Norway, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Ireland, and Switzerland.
Sweden and Finland are among the five countries in the Norwegian-led Sri Lanka Cease-Fire Monitoring Mission that had blamed the LTTE for 2,668 CFA violations since the signing of the agreement. Government forces and police had been blamed for 115 violations.
The overseas visit is the first since the UN warned the LTTE that it could face an international travel ban over child conscription. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in his latest report 'Children and Armed Conflict' had recommended to the UN Security Council to take `targeted and concrete measures where insufficient or no progress has been made` by parties named in his report, including the LTTE.
According to the report, such measures should include the imposition of travel restrictions on leaders and their exclusion from any governance structures and amnesty provisions and restrictions on the flow of financial resources to the parties concerned.
Talks between the visiting LTTE delegation and their hosts are to be centred on the international assistance to re-build the tsunami ravaged northern and eastern provinces, particularly the region under its direct control. Talks would also focus on the proposed joint mechanism (with the government) to take charge of tsunami reconstruction.
The LTTE delegation includes B. Nadesan, head of the 'Thamil Eelam Police Service', Ms. P. Geetha, deputy head of LTTE's women's political division and Puleedevan, in charge of their Peace Secretariat.
The delegation is to meet the Norwegian Foreign Minister and her International Development Minister (on March 11), the Foreign Minister of Finland and German International Development Minister.

| Good luck to you all guys! Go and expose the Srilanka Govts. double standards in giving releif to the Tsunami Victims in North and East! The western world should understand where the problem is, JVP and President are pretending that they are fighting, as if the Govt. is trying to do something and JVP is preventing it, but the actual fact is that both don't want to come to an agreement with the tigers on any issue, They are enacting a drama to the outside world. You can fool some people some time, but not all the people all the time. People will see an end to this nonsense soon. |

Scum bags, great time to ask for political asylum while you are there and join your choirboys who write to this post. Who knows they might end up detention centers for traveling with forged Eelam passports.
Come on you murderers, LTTE have the indecency to travel with SL passports and slam SL Govt. For sure they will return with a rotten eggs on their faces for political murders and recruiting child soldiers.
Did you hear about SL govt plans to send Karuna Amman to the EU next month?
Scared of the JVP now, eh? They won't let you have your Eelam easy way. Lets fight for it on the battlefield, now lets see how much have to achieved after 20 yrs, NOTHING! It will be the same over the next 1000 yrs.

You seem to ignore or pretend to ignore facts when you write your posts.You never reply to the preceding posts and start another topic. Wherever the LTTE delegates go they get a red carpet welcome and treated like foreign dignitaries.The day they travel in Eelam passports is not far away as long as people like you, tusker and sunawij exist in the sinhalese community.People of your likes makes things easier for the tigers to justify their claim for a separate state for the tamils.There are only a few people like you in the sinhalese community. The majority of the sinhalese people understand the fact that there does exist a problem and without talking to the tigers it is not possible to resolve this issue at all. Whatever the solution is, it has to have the consent of the tigers, the sole representatives of the thamil community. Try to understand the facts rather than complicating the issues further. As Oracle_Aus asked you, if only war is the solution are you prepared to go to the battlefront and fight? Stop being an arm-chair critic and act like a person with common sense. |

We need people like you to show the real face of a sinhalese to the world. Go on man. Tamils know where they stand. You talk about plane and the food. Do me a favour. Fly on Srilanka from colombo to london or frankfort and see the percentage of tamils in the flight About 80%. This is reality buddy, tamils are more experienced in flying they you.
Also, here is another funny thing. If you will visit the toilet in ANY srilankan air line, THERE ARE LOTS OF SPELLING MISTAKES IN THE WRITING, Where it says 'Do not smoke in the toilet etc' and also in tamil.
Soo, don't putself and your fellow sinhalese in a bad situation by pointing out things like this in the future, that would be a big favour that you would do to your fellows.

When i read all the comments made by different parties, i feel sorry for both sides. I was born in Sri Lanka but i did not choose to be born in Sri Lanka. I was born a Sinhalese and a Christian but i did not chooses to be one. I am sure non of you did choose to be born to a particular race, caste or religion. If you had the choice i would have guessed most of the so called 'PATRIOTS' who claim that they have a birth right to defend their race would have liked to have been born in USA or any other Western affluent country.
Be it a Tamil, a Muslim or Sinhalese,we find ways to divide ourselves than unite ourselves. All of you who accuse each other please write something to unite us. I mean the Tamils and Sinhalese. When you write something good about the other you win more hearts and minds and there will be peace in Sri Lanka.
No party is without blame, The Sinhalese and the Tamils have done atrocities against each other. Let us forget those and let our children and our children's children have a better future.
REMEMBER !!!!! None of us take a piece of the land we live in when we die. So Elam or Sri Lanka does not matter. What matters is what we leave behind. |

We should here because we need peace. Lets choose our way ie Let LTTE rule us. They are showing us the brighter future.
So we have a point to make a point. We have been througth No food, no house, women rapes. Therefore we also have the right to get anger. Others in this forum also tent to act like they care about tamil people. They are almost behaving like politicians. Why don't they understand the cause of our fight. As you said, no one takes up the land when they die. So give us the land for us to live in PEACE. Anyway, I see you are a gentle man, In this post every body is not well educated. They are here for some reason, ie to spread the news to the world that they are right. But belive me, the world knows exaclty whats going on. I less come to this site now a days because realized that you are banking your head against idiots

Even you ppl do not have humanity & courticy to respect some political leaders who came to the Sri Lankan Gvnment WITH THE VERY FAIR way of a democratic election, with getting the majority votes. Its being one year now for the public train suicide bomb attack which killed 191 innocent ppl & injured 1,500 ppl, in Madrid. They say the do not recognize “talking with suicide bombers” as acceptable. You ppl are hurt so much with these comments and jump up & down and blaming Madrid Gvnmtn like hell. Don’t forget we were really witnessed to your brutal suicide bomb attacks carried out in day light in crowded busy cities, killed thousands of civilians.
As long as you justify Tamil LTTE, we sinhalese will fight against to tell the world the truth, which Tamil ppl like you, do not accept.
Hey LTTE guys, It’s a shame on all you ppl to use the very airport you ppl attacked and demolished, to embark to go abroad to carry out your TERRORISTS propaganda to raise funds and to make shopping to buy “modern arms and means” to attack same airport and sinhalese!!!!! Cheers..

If you go to Canada and talk to tamils there you will see how many tamils are cursing LTTE, they are dreaming to come to sri lanka.
