How come members cannot see the irony here? The Buddhists priests can openly support a presidential candidate as a political force(JHU) . Then Catholic priests should also have their right to support the candidate of their choice? Are we talking about democracy in this country or hegemony of the majority?
If Buddhists priests stay out of politics then we can ask others to do so too. |

This column is becoming disgusting specially after some new entrants who write real rubbish. People who do not understand religion and the purpose of birth should refrain from discussing religion. What does it matter Werther Jeyaraj is Chetty or Hetty or Tamil. He is a human being like anyone of us. Then about the priests CELIBACY is an important aspect of priesthood. So why discuss sex in that context. Is there any guarantee that you won't be born into that community in your next birth?. For that matter there is nothing preventing you being born as an animal!.

The crawling Theocracy in SL is in the hands of JHU and JVP.
JHU to drive the precepts of adulterated Buddhism and JVP to strike by fear mongering.
Banda's change was only selfish.
Banda didn't love the Buddhists.
Banda adopted the selfish policy - ME, MYSELF & I.
If not for the Nuns in the hospitals, many wouln't have experienced what is known as Love and Compassion that was much lacking in the hearts of others who were very principled even not to touch patients.
Show me ONE BUDDHIST PRIEST IN A HOSPITAL IN SL, nursing /caring an Injured soldier to prove that these people are Patriots of the nation.
Patriotism can be shown in many ways. Buddhism in SL is hijacked to the extent in these days it has become the Rasthiyadhukarayas way of life.
Just shut up. Ban all religions from political involvement and the politics from religious influences.
We will all see a better SL.

I say aye to what you have said.What you have said is very true.
Buddhism in Sri Lanka has always been used as a tool by the Sinhala chauvinist priests to impose their will on the society that is composed of a number of races and religions.
Buddhism is the opium of the uneducated Sinhala masses and the Sinhala racists are well aware of this and are using it to maintain Sinhala Buddhist supremacy over all other races and religions.
Did Jeyaraj complain about the Mahanayakes and the JHU supporting Mahinda's candidacy? No.
Jeyaraj's criticism of the catholic church hierarchy is totally unwarranted and he should make a public apology.
Like Kadir, this catholic Tamil Chetti is trying to appease the Sinhala Buddhists for his own benefit. This man has no self respect. |

Calculator, you seem to be worried about christian fundamentalism and all that is associated with it and the adverse effects it is having on buddhism and even these evangelists barging on your privacy. When these evangelists barge in on your privacy why the heck don't you chase them out? Don't tolerate them within the precincts of your premises. I have chased them out quite a few times and don't have any problems with that. Stand up for your self!
Why does the country need state protection from these pimpy evangelists? If they barge in kick them up their backsides!
Also do you realise that budhdhists have unwittingly converted to Hinduism? If you go to Kataragama and Munneswaram you would see what I mean. Do you know of any buddhist laymen in SL who has not worshipped hindu gods at Kataragama with faith?
The so called evangelists have the freedom of expression enshrined as a fundamental right under the SL constitution so they can go about preaching right round the country side. Also the people of SL have a right to follow what ever religion they wish to and this right is also enshrined in the constitution. So if the freedom of expression by one individual infringes on the right to freedom of thought and religion of another there is the choice of getting embroiled in costly litigation to resolve the matter or asking the evangelists to mind their own business as what I have done. Which would you prefer?

Waruna, I am not in the least worried about christian fundamentalism or about buddhists worshipping hindu gods or any other gods. Any one is free to worship anything or anyone. More insurance covers the better!!
What do you do when these christian evangelists barge in on your privacy as said by Calculator and 'devour' according to you?
So what you actually say is that you don't mind buddhists worshipping hindu gods and going to hindu temples because they all preach good but avoid christians because christians don't preach good and that christians are a dangerous lot. Have I got you correct?

As I told before, these narrow minded people like Waruna and Mucha belong to the lost generation of Sri Lanka. These are the products that came out of the system after the Sirima-Badudeen silly reforms of education in 1973, which completely ruined our education system.
These people have had their primary education completely in Sinhalese, so they have had no chance of being friendly with any Tamil guys. As a result, they lack the ability to look any issue from the other side. They have also had any real chances to be familiar with the international world, as they are continuously nurtured in the 'Lin-medi' environment. So please don't be surprised when these people talk about the 'Sinhalese Buddhist Dharmarajya' or :Mixed economy'. It is their mind set and they cannot come out of it.
These are the people JVP and JHU focus on for their vote banks. Fortunately for JHU and JVP there are enough of such people in Sri Lanka (some living outside) willing to take the lin-medi chinthana forward...
There is no point of arguing with these types, because the narrow and single trace education they had will not allow them to open their minds?These are we called ?cripple minds?

Giving reference to Wikipedia itself shows the sheer stupidity of some people here!
For those who are not aware 'Wikipedia' is an encyclopedia built by the people. Anyone can write anything on it. (You can try it) You can also edit what someone else had written. (I have added a sentence there about JHU and you can see it, if someone else has not removed it.)
It is not at all a surprise that a mee-harakaa like Mahinda became our leader! Stupid people prefer stupid leaders... |
