Now I understand why Mahinda maama - the true Sinhalese Buddhist leader - wanted to send his sons to a Christian school!
I mean he surely wanted his sons to have some good fun with the priests!
Had Mahinda maama sent his sons to Ananda or Nalanda, they would have missed all the fun!
A very considerate father! |

((They are just interested in buying souls for the God that they worship and are not interested in religious harmony and religious tolerance.))
Everyone (almost) has a price at which they can be bought, what do you think Mahinda and Ranil were doing with all those election promises? Almost everyone buys everyone; anyone who works for a salary is bought, if you like it or not.
((They will do anything in their power just to win converts and when people stand up to their fanaticism and bible thumping they scream from the rooftops as if they are the victims. ))
Agreed. Any form of fanaticism is bad, the Southern Christian nutcases in America is a terrible menace. But why limit extremism just to Christianity? Extremism in any form is bad as it is amply demonstrated in different parts of the world, be it Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or anything else.
The problem is not the religion, it's how people interpret it for their own advantage. In most cases to control other people and get them to do their bidding.
A man doesn't need a religion to attain enlightenment.
But the question still remains, why does Mahinda send his children to a Christian school not to a Buddhist one? As a father I am sure he is doing what he think is best for his children! |

Thamil, yep I have heard rumours.... on forums such as this. I am yet to read an actual report in the press however :)
If you're interested in Homosexuality and Buddhism there are quite a few books written by gay Buddhists on the subject. I would recommend a few of the talks on 'sex and Buddhism' by Ajahn Brahmavamso where he also address Homosexuality from a Buddhist perspective. |

Waruna, whether through the JHU or otherwise, there should be a strong Buddhist movement that seeks to have the aspirations of Buddhist community fulfilled. I didn't vote for the JHU and will probably never will but I appreciate how they brought the issue of Christian fundamentalism and evangelism into the limelight. If not, it would have been hidden away by sections of the Catholic Church and the various Christian fundamentalist organizations who are trying to convert all the 'pagan' Buddhists and Hindus and even Muslims to the facist, intolerant brand of Christianity that they follow.
Sri Lanka needs liberal and moderate Christianity not this Southern Baptist crazy talk because it is a multi religious country and in a multi religious country Christian fundamentalism ('only ours is the true religion, all others are Satan-inspired') only creates trouble.
In fact I would say there is a battle waging within the Christian community right now between the backward fanatics and the enlightened moderates and liberals. |

Thamil,
These are two JHU abbitta koluwas talking rubbish. Please don't waste your time on them.
The true Sinhalese Buddhits are not represented by the JHU cheevaradharees or abitta koluwas like this. True Buddhists are never racists like this and they will respect others freedom of choice, whether it is religious or otherwise.
JHU cheevaradharees and abitta koluwas want to build a Buddhits taleban in Sri Lanka. It is only a day dream. Even their beloved leader Mahinda maama will not be able to do that, so don't worry.
Let us be the tolerant and compassionate society tolerable of ALL religious faiths and not be a Buddhist taleban. |
