Kiwikanga,
I am really amused to see where it goes now.
It was Jeyaraj telling about Catholic priests in the Christian belt of the South.
Now how come we get LTTE into the equation? And why only LTTE? Why not Al-Qaeda? Why not PLO?
Koheda yanne, malle pol!
I warned you not to argue with modayas! |

Naleen I totally agree with you. But isn't it amusing to see how a sinhaya roars about what christians are and then when questioned to substantiate, prevaricates and attempts to flee like the domestic feline. Waruna Runs off track, gets personal by even calling me and even you an 'LTTE coolie' (what ever that means)when he is unable to face the music any more !! Just having a little fun for relaxation!! Kiwikanga:
Strange, I never saw a Sinhaya roar...
I just saw some cats (probably thinking they are Sinhayas) defecating here and there in the typical JHU/JVP style... |

I can't remember exactly when, but, for sure it was during CBK's regime. Jayaraj and CBK had many disagreements over political matters from time to time and one time CBK had a plan to reject his nomination. His supporters were really angry and one day they climbed on to the roof top of Jayaraj house to protest against CBK's decision.
Neighbors, reporters and even police came to see this unusual demonstration.
Mr.Jayaraj came out of his house, he was cool. Then said that he can't do anything about this demonstration and his supporters are not happy with CBK's decision. Since it is a peaceful protest, he can't go against his supporters at this crucial time. Poor police was shocked.
P.S. This is a real story; I will try to find an original version. Edited By - newbie - 22 Dec 2005 05:20:26 GMT |

Newbie, yes that has actually happened. Jeyaraj buwa was about to defect to UNP with SB, GL and Mahinda W, once but changed his mind at the last moment.
But you see how logical Jeyaraj's supporters were!
Since they did not like CBK's decision, they climb to the roof of Jeyaraj's house. A more irrational person would have thought of climbing to CBK's house...Don't you think so? |

Some of the members do not have the understanding, that though certain historical developments occurred in our world that we all denounce today , things have started to change from the 20th century and now we are in the 21st century.
If we are going to discriminate Christians of our country because of the crusaders , then it is an absolute stupidity. The majority of the Christians in our country again are Singhalese. The bridge between the Tamils and the Singhalese were ,non other than the Catholics and the Christian community but not the Singhalese Buddhist or the Hindu Tamils.
Some of the members perhaps have not heard what 'Martyrs of Mannar' was. This was about a Tamil king in Sri Lanka killing 600 Tamils including women and children who had converted to Catholicism 400 years ago.
Portuguese trying to convert people to Catholicism probably had killed many ,but not millions as one of our Singhalese Buddhist Chauvinist claims here.
It is true that the process of proselytism in Sri Lanka began after Portuguese invasion in the 14th century. Francis Xavier an ardent Spaniard in 1541 wrote of an Island in India inhabited by gentiles with no Moors nor Jews where there was great scope ' for the Gospel'. The morally bankrupt invaders acted in forceful conversion of natives of the coastal regions of this Island as well as brought more Malabar Tamil Catholics from India to consolidate their power in occupied areas. However this was five centuries ago. If the majority of the Singhalese Buddhist are now trying to say that the Buddhism of this country is at threat from Evangelist proselytism it is a cover up of their betrayal of Buddhism by them selves.
Through out the history of Sri Lanka for 2500 years Buddhism had survived various foreign invasions starting from South Indian Chola invaders to British. It also survived the Catholic and Christian influence from Portuguese and Dutch occupation to British. Government take over of the Christian missionary schools in 1961 further eliminated the Christian influence on education.
So what these so called pseudo Singhalese Buddhist patriots talking about the Evangelical threat to Buddhism is just rubbish. Edited By - magha - 22 Dec 2005 05:39:16 GMT |

Magha, that was a fantastic posting. I totally agree with you that christian evangelism or what ever other evangelisms there may be are not going to threaten the existence of buddhism or the valuable teachings of the Buddha.
It is very unfortunate that there are individuals who think otherwise and are afflicted with somekind of christianphobia which seems to border on buddhist extremism if I may use that term. |

Magha,
I totally agree with you. All these issues about 'unethical conversions' are just rubbish made by few JHU cheevaradharees - so that they can enter the parliament and enjoy a luxurious life.
When I did a Google search for the term 'Unethical conversions' out of the first 100 hits I got, 97 were directly related to Sri Lanka. Does this mean Sri Lanka is the only country where unethical conversions happen?
JHU guys never, I repeat, never presented ANY evidence about unethical conversions. They just burned few churches and even houses here and there and claimed those belong to evangelists. To this date JHU does not have any evidence on so-called unethical conversions they claim to happen in Sri Lanka... |

| Perhaps the Signhalese Buddhist member who went to the Catholic school got sodomized by a Catholic priest and now has a large back passage with fecal incontinence ,that he developed so much hatred towards Catholics and Christians of our country. |
