Sri Lanka`s youth rugby team lost an opportunity to qualify for the 2006 Youth Rugby World Cup in Dubai due to a 10-25 reverse to Thailand on Thursday, in the on-going Junior Rugby Asiad in Lahore, Pakistan, the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) states in a press release.
Gayan Fernando`s team, co-sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka Limited, had earlier lost 13-38 to reigning champions South Korea in the first game before rallying to post a comfortable 21-5 win over Kazakhstan in the following game.
Thus Sri Lanka has been forced to play for the fifth and sixth places with Malaysia due to commence today in a draw re-scheduled by tournament organisers.
The Under 19 Asian rugby football tournament has been organised by the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU).
